About the Role<br>The Research User Computing Linux Specialist designs, operates, and continuously improves KAUST's Linux-based research end-user computing platforms, including Ubuntu and Rocky Linux endpoints, physical scientific workstations, and virtual scientific workstation services. This role enables secure, reliable, and high-performance access to scientific desktop environments for faculty, researchers, and students.<br>Responsibilities<br>Administer, maintain, and improve Ubuntu and Rocky Linux end-user platforms to provide stable and secure scientific workstation services for KAUST's research and academic communities. Develop, standardize, and maintain Linux workstation builds and images for physical and virtual scientific desktops, ensuring consistency, reliability, and readiness for research use. Manage and support remote scientific workstation platforms, including NICE DCV and Kasm Workspaces, to enable secure, high-performance access to research desktop environments. Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, monitoring, and compliance activities using scripting, configuration management, Infrastructure as Code, and Git Ops-aligned practices. <span>We are looking for a motivated Cloud Engineer to support the design, implementation, management, and operation of secure public cloud environments.<br> The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of cloud networking, cloud security, identity management, and cybersecurity, with a strong interest in developing expertise in cloud architecture and infrastructure.<br> Key Responsibilities Assist in designing, implementing, and managing public cloud environments and landing zones .<br> Support cloud network architecture, including VPC/VNet, subnets, routing, firewalls, VPNs, and network connectivity .<br> Assist with secure connectivity between cloud platforms and on-premises environments.<br> Support the implementation and management of cloud security controls and best practices.<br> Assist with Identity and Access Management (IAM) , user roles, permissions, and access policies.<br> Monitor cloud infrastructure, network performance, security, and availability.<br> Troubleshoot basic cloud networking, connectivity, and security issues.<br> Support cloud governance, security standards, and compliance requirements.<br> Work closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity, DevOps, and application teams.<br> equirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.<br> 0–2 years of experience in cloud computing, networking, infrastructure, or a related field.<br> Basic understanding of at least one major public cloud platform: Microsoft Azure Amazon Web Services (AWS) Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Basic knowledge of: Cloud networking and architecture VPC/VNet and subnet design Routing and network security Firewalls and VPNs IAM and access management DNS and load balancing Cloud security and cybersecurity fundamentals Hybrid cloud connectivity Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.<br> Strong communication and teamwork abilities.<br> Eagerness to learn and build a career in cloud engineering and architecture.<br></span> </div><h2 data-automation-id="subHeaderPreferredCandidate" class="h5">
