<h2 class="h5">Job description</h2> <div class="t-break" data-jb-field="description"> Summary<p>Procures and prepares specimens from patients/donors for laboratory testing. Operates and maintains laboratory pre-analytical equipment. Distributes specimens to appropriate laboratory section.</p><br><br>Essential Responsibilities and Duties<br><p>1. Obtains specimens from patients in accordance with accepted techniques and procedures, including but not limited to phlebotomy, correct patient identification, dispensing appropriate specimen containers, and instructing patients in proper collection of samples submitted for testing.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>2. Receives, processes, aliquots, and distributes specimens to appropriate laboratory sections following established procedures.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>3. Obtains correct medical history from blood donors and screens blood donors for hematocrit, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse following established procedure.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>4. Performs assigned duties as related to Hospital information system (ICIS), including but not limited to encounter creation, activation, inquiry, labelling, and receiving functions.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>5. Operates and maintains laboratory pre-analytical equipment, and participates in the quality assurance programs of the department.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>6. Assists technologists in routine duties as directed, including but not limited to assisting with stocking supplies, limited clerical functions, and maintenance procedures as defined for the section.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>7. Prepares and packages specimens for send-out following the shipping instructions of both the performing laboratories and the International Air Transport Association.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>8. Performs results entry for send-out specimens and reviews the outstanding specimens log to ensure all requests are properly processed.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>9. Ensures correct procedures are followed for all aspects of safety as established in the department, including safe disposal of used needles and lancets using Universal precautions in work practices.&nbsp;</p><br><br><p>10. <p>Responsible for a specified procedural area to perform Clinical Neurophysiology Procedures.</p><p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties</p><ol><li>Works independently and ensures a proper environment for testing in the laboratory, wards, Emergency Room (ER), or Intensive Care Units (ICUs).</li><li>Obtains medical history of patient and summarizes relevant data. Puts patient at ease and explains procedure. Safely performs auditory, visual or electrical stimulation of the nervous system. Adjusts settings of equipment to ensure proper and accurate test results. Recognizes and eliminates artefacts to produce meaningful diagnostic information.</li><li>Measures and applies multiple electrodes precisely, carefully, and securely to predetermined anatomic sites. Based on patient s age, diagnosis, current state and medical history, performs Digital Video Electroencephalography (EEG), Visual, Brainstem Auditory and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials, Nerve conduction Studies, Sleep studies, Pulse Oximetry, Autonomic Studies and Long Term Video/Digital Encephalographic monitoring (LTM), in both adult and paediatric patients.</li><li>Performs urgent diagnostic tests on critically ill patients in ICUs and the ER on mobile equipment or in the laboratory setting in coordination with nursing and respiratory therapy personnel.</li><li>Monitors patients with surgically implanted intracranial electrodes.</li><li>Assists physicians with invasive procedures in Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring, Electrocorticography and Electromyography.</li><li>Monitors patients intraoperatively. Notes signs of distress, medical emergencies, or seizures.
