Job description

The role involves designing, managing, and optimizing urban water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems while ensuring environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing existing infrastructure, conducting feasibility studies, evaluating environmental impacts, and planning wet infrastructure layouts in coordination with transportation and utility networks.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders—planners, architects, developers, and government agencies—to develop integrated, sustainable urban solutions.
  • Reviewing project designs, obtaining permits, analyzing data on population, traffic, and energy use, and ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Designing and managing water supply and wastewater systems in urban areas.
  • Developing plans for water distribution networks, sewage collection and treatment systems, stormwater management, and water resource management to ensure safe and efficient water supply and environmental sustainability.
  • Analyzing existing conditions, assessing needs and demands, and developing engineering solutions that optimize functionality and sustainability.
  • Conducting feasibility studies to assess the viability and practicality of urban development projects.
  • Evaluating environmental impact, economic feasibility, technical constraints, and regulatory compliance factors.
  • Performing feasibility studies to help inform decision-making and ensure that proposed projects align with urban planning goals and requirements.
  • Assessing the potential environmental impact of urban development projects.
  • Evaluating air and water pollution, habitat disruption, and energy consumption.
  • Developing strategies and recommendations to minimize negative environmental effects and promote sustainable development practices based on findings.
  • Analyzing and planning the layout and distribution of wet infrastructure systems within urban areas, considering factors such as population density, land use patterns, and transportation demands.
  • Coordinating with road networks, public transportation, utility systems, and other essential services.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and standards.
  • Reviewing project designs, specifications, and construction plans to ensure they meet required standards for safety, accessibility, and environmental impact.
  • Working closely with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary permits and approvals for urban development projects.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including urban planners, architects, developers, government agencies, and community members, to develop integrated solutions that meet the needs and aspirations of urban communities.
  • Providing technical expertise and contributing to the coordination of project implementation, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved.
  • Using data analysis and modelling techniques to assess and predict the performance of urban infrastructure systems.
  • Analyzing data related to population growth, traffic patterns, energy consumption, and other relevant factors to inform planning decisions and optimize the design and operation of infrastructure systems.
  • Maintaining knowledge of relevant quality, environmental, safety, and occupational health policies, manuals, and procedures, ensuring continued compliance while employed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the line manager or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master degree in engineering or urban planning from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in related field.
  • Experience in the master planning of water and wastewater services.
  • Ability to collect master plans data and produce related reports.
  • Ability to develop KPIs in relation to strategic planning and monitor the performance of regional clusters based on these KPIs.
  • Experience with preparing high quality performance reports.
  • Capable of fluent communication in Arabic and English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
