Senior Structural Engineer (Bridges & Tunnels) will be responsible for leading, reviewing, and supervising all structural engineering works related to bridges, tunnels, and associated road structures for a PMC infrastructure project. The role ensures that designs and construction activities comply with project specifications, international standards, and client and authority requirements, with a strong focus on safety, durability, and constructability.
Responsibilities
- Lead the review and approval of structural designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and method statements submitted by contractors.
- Ensure structural designs are coordinated with geotechnical, civil, MEP, ITS, and tunnel systems.
- Verify compliance with international standards (AASHTO, Eurocodes, BS, ASTM) and local authority requirements.
- Lead the design review and supervision of bridge structures including foundations, piers, abutments, decks, bearings, expansion joints, and parapets.
- Monitor construction of in-situ and precast concrete structures, steel structures, and post-tensioning systems.
- Ensure durability, load capacity, and long-term performance of bridge structures.
- Lead the design review and supervision of tunnel structural works including excavation support systems, segmental linings, in-situ linings, shotcrete, waterproofing, and grouting.
- Coordinate with geotechnical engineers to ensure ground support and lining systems are appropriate for site conditions.
- Ensure compliance with tunnel safety, fire resistance, and durability requirements.
- Monitor construction works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Review inspection requests, test results, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) and verify corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance during critical construction stages and temporary works.
- Liaise with contractors, designers, authorities, and the client on structural engineering matters.
- Resolve structural design and construction issues in a timely manner.
- Attend technical meetings, workshops, and site inspections.
- Maintain comprehensive records of design approvals, inspections, testing, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare periodic reports on structural progress, risks, and technical issues.
- Support authority approvals, audits, and client reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil / Structural Engineering.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in structural engineering for major infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience on roads, bridges, and tunnel projects.
- PMC or consultancy experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of bridge and tunnel structural systems and construction methods.
- Familiarity with international design codes and standards.
- Excellent coordination, leadership, communication, and technical reporting skills.
