A restaurant hostess plays a crucial role in ensuring guests have a smooth experience from the moment they arrive. Here are the key responsibilities of a restaurant hostess:
Greeting Guests:- Warmly greet customers as they enter the restaurant.- Welcome them with a friendly and professional demeanour.- Acknowledge reservations, walk-ins, and any special requests. Seating Guests- Escort guests to their tables based on availability and seating preferences.- Ensure that the seating arrangement is comfortable and appropriate for the party size.- Make sure that tables are clean and properly set up before seating guests. Managing Reservations:- Take reservations over the phone, through email, or in person.- Maintain and manage reservation records using software or logbooks.- Keep track of table availability and update wait times as needed.- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and waitstaff regarding reservations and walk-ins.- ensuring online payments and transactions are accurate. Managing the Waitlist:- If the restaurant is busy, maintain an organized waitlist and notify guests when their table is ready.- Provide guests with accurate wait time estimates and keep them updated on their status.- Offer guests menus and possibly a drink while they wait. Providing Information:- Answer questions about the menu, hours of operation, specials, and restaurant policies.- Assist guests with any special requests or concerns.- Direct guests to the restroom, bar area, or other parts of the restaurant as needed. Handling Customer Concerns:- Address initial concerns or complaints from guests calmly and professionally.- Escalate unresolved issues to management if necessary.- Maintain a positive and welcoming attitude, even in stressful situations. Coordinating with Other Staff:- Communicate seating arrangements with servers, managers, and kitchen staff.- Keep track of table turnover and inform the team about guest preferences or needs.- Help the restaurant team stay organized and on schedule. Maintaining the Host Stand:- Keep the host stand area organized and clean.- Ensure that the waiting area is presentable and comfortable for guests.- Stock essential supplies, such as menus, pens, and reservation books. Assisting with the Dining Room:- Monitor the flow of guests to avoid bottlenecks or delays.- Help create a pleasant ambiance by adjusting lighting or music volume as needed.- Occasionally assist servers or bussers by clearing tables or providing menus to guests.
