Job Purpose The Network Performance Monitoring Engineer is responsible for designing, operating, and optimizing enterprise network monitoring solutions to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of network infrastructure. The role focuses on proactive monitoring, deep performance analysis, rapid issue resolution, and continuous improvement of network visibility across hybrid environments, with strong emphasis on the Solar Winds monitoring suite.
Key Accountabilities
Proven experience working with Solar Winds NPM, NCM, and NTM in enterprise or large-scale environments. Monitor and maintain the health and performance of enterprise network infrastructure using Solar Winds NPM, NCM, and NTM, along with tools such as Zabbix, Nagios, and Splunk. Design, implement, and optimize network performance monitoring strategies to ensure end-to-end visibility and fast incident resolution. Build and fine-tune monitoring dashboards, alerts, and reports to support proactive operations, capacity planning, and SLA management. Perform advanced network performance troubleshooting, traffic analysis, and root cause analysis (RCA) for complex and recurring issues. Manage network configuration, compliance, and policy enforcement using Solar Winds NCM, including automated backups and configuration audits. Create and maintain accurate network topology maps and documentation using Solar Winds NTM. Conduct packet-level and protocol analysis using tools such as Wireshark and Net Flow/IPFIX-based solutions. Automate monitoring, reporting, and configuration tasks using scripting tools (e.g., Power Shell, Python). Collaborate with network, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure the network is secure, optimized, and aligned with business requirements. Participate in incident response, change management, and on-call rotation for critical network events. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance during major incidents and projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum Experience
4+ years of experience in network performance monitoring, analysis, and troubleshooting.
Job-Specific Skills
Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, ICMP, BGP, OSPF, etc.). Strong hands-on experience with Solar Winds monitoring and configuration management modules. Experience with additional monitoring and analytics tools such as Zabbix, Nagios, Splunk, and packet analyzers (e.g., Wireshark). Solid understanding of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network security concepts. Ability to design meaningful alerts, reduce alert noise, and improve MTTR. Scripting and automation skills (Power Shell, Python) are highly preferred. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. Relevant certifications are a plus (Solar Winds SCP, CCNP, Network+, Splunk).
