Job Details

Purpose of the role:
Responsible for proactively treating injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Assist patients develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Ensures the delivery of International standards of care in accordance with established National and International practices, policies and procedures.
Managerial/Administration:
Contribute to developing therapy service standards and ensure they are consistently met. Acting as a role model deliver high clinical and operational performance standards by developing and supporting the Occupational Therapy team.
To market, promote and profile the service to patients, referrers and the general public and to undertake business development activities.
Ensures the reporting of all adverse events, incidents and near misses.
Contributes to investigations of complaints and incidents and draft responses as required in a timely manner.
Contributes to the monitoring of key performance indicators and developing action plans as required
Ability to develop long-term goals and strategies for the occupational therapy department or service line, ensuring alignment with broader organizational objectives
Should have skills in leading, mentoring, and developing a team of occupational therapists and support staff. This includes fostering a collaborative environment, providing clinical supervision, and facilitating professional growth
Be Competent in working with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide integrated care. This includes effective communication skills and the ability to negotiate and advocate for occupational therapy services within the healthcare setting
Be able to lead and manage change within the department, including implementing new treatments, technologies, or processes, and helping staff navigate these changes
Should have the Knowledge and experience in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, including the ability to analyze data,
identify areas for improvement, and implement evidence-based practices
Should have the experience in developing and updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements
To understand the budgeting processes, including the ability to manage resources effectively, control costs, and justify expenditures related to occupational therapy services
Skilled in resolving conflicts within the team or with patients and families in a way that is constructive and maintains professional relationships
To advocate for the role of occupational therapy in patient care both within the organization and in the wider healthcare community
Upholding high standards of professionalism and ethical practice, and instilling these values in the occupational therapy team
Expected to guide and educate junior staff, enhancing their clinical skills, fostering professional growth, and ensuring adherence to best practices.
Must manage the performance of junior therapists, providing feedback and evaluations, delegating tasks effectively, and coordinating team activities to maintain high standards of patient care.
Responsible for the onboarding process, conflict resolution, and ensuring that the team complies with healthcare regulations and organizational policies, all while managing resources efficiently.
Technical:
Responsible for the implementation and delivery of age-appropriate patient care congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
To work with clients in both individual, joint, and occasionally group settings to work on their goals using functional and impairment-based treatment
Develop and review treatment programs that encourage exercise and movement through the use of a range of techniques.
Carry an active caseload as required by service demand.
Demonstrates clinical expertise in the specialty.
Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide practice improvement initiatives.
Update other healthcare providers on changes in the patient’s condition.

Ability to create individualized treatment plans that address the unique challenges and goals of each patient. This involves setting realistic objectives and selecting appropriate therapeutic activities
Proficiency in a range of therapeutic techniques and interventions, such as sensory integration, hand therapy, or neurodevelopmental treatment.
Quality & Safety:
Participates in quality management activities as assigned and at a personal level of accountability, i.e. accreditation process.
Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost, and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations.
Education:
Actively participates with the Senior Occupational Therapist and head of therapy in staff development activities consistent with service delivery and individual learning goals. Maintains a primary role in departmental and interdepartmental related educational activities. Maintains a significant role in the creation and execution of Hospital programmer, hospital quality development, policy and procedures and competencies. Actively participates in the Clinical Competency Programmer.
Qualifications:
Occupational Therapy B. Sc or graduated in an accredited diploma program (Not less than 3 years syllabus).
Required Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist in a large hospital or rehabilitation setting.
