Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for reviewing, managing, and supervising all mechanical engineering works for a PMC infrastructure project involving roads, bridges, and tunnels. The role ensures that all mechanical systems are designed, installed, tested, commissioned, and handed over in accordance with project specifications, international standards, and client and authority requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and method statements submitted by contractors.
- Ensure mechanical systems are fully coordinated with civil, structural, electrical, ITS, and tunnel safety systems.
- Verify compliance with project specifications, international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, EN), and local authority regulations.
- Oversee mechanical systems associated with road infrastructure including pump stations, drainage pumping systems, utility chambers, and maintenance facilities.
- Review mechanical installations for road-side buildings and ancillary structures.
- Review mechanical components for bridges including movable bridge systems (if applicable), drainage systems, expansion joint interfaces, and inspection/maintenance equipment.
- Ensure mechanical installations are durable and protected against environmental exposure.
- Review and approve tunnel mechanical systems including ventilation systems (longitudinal, transverse), jet fans, dampers, fire & life safety systems, smoke control systems, and emergency response equipment.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical power, SCADA, fire detection, and ITS systems.
- Ensure compliance with international tunnel safety and life-safety standards.
- Supervise factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, and system integration testing.
- Review test results and ensure rectification of mechanical defects or non-conformities.
- Support smooth handover to operations and maintenance teams.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, authorities, and the client.
- Resolve mechanical engineering issues and interface challenges.
- Attend technical meetings, inspections, and progress reviews.
- Monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Review non-conformance reports (NCRs) and verify implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain records of mechanical approvals, inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Prepare periodic reports on mechanical progress, risks, and performance.
- Support audits, authority approvals, and client reviews.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering for major infrastructure projects.
- Proven PMC or consultancy experience on roads, bridges, and tunnel projects.
- Strong knowledge of tunnel ventilation, fire & life safety systems, and mechanical interfaces.
- Familiarity with international standards and local authority requirements.
- Excellent coordination, communication, and technical reporting skills.
