Job Details

Senior Materials Engineer will be responsible for managing, reviewing, and approving all material-related activities for a PMC infrastructure project involving roads, bridges, and tunnels. The role ensures full compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements, while maintaining quality, durability, and cost-effectiveness of construction materials.


Responsibilities




  • Review, evaluate, and approve material submittals, mix designs, method statements, and technical data sheets.

  • Ensure materials comply with project specifications, approved standards (ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN), and local authority requirements.

  • Coordinate with design, supervision, and construction teams on material-related issues.



  • Supervise laboratory and field testing of construction materials including soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, steel, and tunnel lining materials.

  • Review and approve test results, inspection reports, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).

  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented for failed or non-compliant materials.



  • Oversee materials used for earthworks, subgrade, sub-base, base course, asphalt, and pavement layers.

  • Approve asphalt and concrete mix designs and monitor trial mixes.

  • Ensure durability and performance requirements are met for long-term pavement life.



  • Review materials related to structural concrete, reinforcement steel, pre-stressing systems, bearings, expansion joints, and protective coatings.

  • Ensure compliance with durability, corrosion protection, and structural performance standards.



  • Review and approve materials for tunnel excavation support, shotcrete, waterproofing membranes, segmental linings, grouting, and fire-resistant materials.

  • Monitor material performance in aggressive ground and environmental conditions.



  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, laboratories, and third-party inspectors.

  • Provide technical guidance and resolve material-related disputes.

  • Attend technical meetings and provide expert advice to the PMC and client.



  • Maintain comprehensive records of material approvals, test results, and compliance logs.

  • Prepare periodic reports on material performance, risks, and recommendations.

  • Support audits and inspections by authorities and the client.

Required




  • Minimum 15 years of experience in materials engineering for large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Proven experience in PMC or consultancy roles.

  • Strong background in roads, bridges, and tunnel projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of international material standards and specifications.

  • Experience working with accredited laboratories and QA/QC systems.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and work under project timelines.
