Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Agile Coach to lead the enterprise-wide adoption of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This role goes beyond team-level coaching and requires a strategic change agent capable of coaching leadership on Lean-Agile mindsets, driving cultural transformation, and enabling the shift from traditional Waterfall models to a value-driven Agile organization. The Agile Coach will be responsible for assessing Agile maturity, facilitating major SAFe events, building internal Agile capabilities, and ensuring long-term sustainability of Agile practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agile Transformation Strategy & Roadmap
- Assessment: Conduct initial Agile maturity assessments to understand the current state of teams, tooling, and culture.
- Value Stream Mapping: Lead workshops to identify Operational and Development Value Streams to organize teams around value delivery.
- Implementation Plan: Design and execute a rollout roadmap for launching Agile Release Trains (ARTs) aligned with business strategic themes.
2. Execution & Facilitation (SAFe Events)
- PI Planning: Drive the preparation and facilitation of Program Increment (PI) Planning events, ensuring alignment on vision, roadmap, and dependencies.
- Cadence Governance: Establish and coach the organization on the necessary cadence of synchronization events (Scrum of Scrums, PO Sync, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt).
- Dependency Management: Implement mechanisms to visualize and manage cross-team and cross-ART dependencies.
3. Coaching & Capability Building
- Executive Coaching: Coach executives, managers, and leaders in the Lean-Agile mindset, helping them shift from "managing work" to "enabling teams."
- Role Coaching: Provide direct mentorship to Release Train Engineers (RTEs), Scrum Masters, and Product Managers/Owners to master their specific SAFe responsibilities.
- Training: Deliver certification training (e.g., Leading SAFe, SAFe for Teams) and customized workshops to upskill the workforce.
4. Metrics & Continuous Improvement
- Measurement: Define and implement key metrics (Flow Velocity, Flow Time, FlowLoad) to measure the success of the transformation.
- Relentless Improvement: Facilitate Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshops to identify systemic impediments and drive continuous improvement across the train.
Qualifications
- Certification: Certified SAFe® Program Consultant (SPC) is mandatory. Additional certifications (PSM II/III, CSP, ICP-ACC) are a plus.
- Proven experience leading a SAFe transformation in a large enterprise or government entity (launching at least 2-3 Agile Release Trains).
- Demonstrated experience delivering SAFe training courses to diverse audiences (from developers to C-level execs).
- Exceptional facilitation, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle resistance to change with empathy and firmness.
- Proficiency in Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira Align) to visualize flow.
