Estimation Process Management:
- Lead the estimation department for civil engineering projects.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects, including material, labor, equipment, and indirect costs.
- Review and interpret tender documents, architectural plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work and project requirements.
- Develop and update estimation tools, databases, and software to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Tender and Bid Preparation:
- Analyze and review tender documents to develop comprehensive bid packages.
- Participate in bid preparation and submission processes, ensuring that all cost estimations and proposals are accurate, complete, and competitive.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and compare costs for materials and services.
Cost Analysis and Risk Assessment:
- Conduct cost analysis to evaluate and compare different project options.
- Identify potential risks, uncertainties, and challenges that may affect the project's cost and schedule, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure that cost estimates align with project budgets, timelines, and contract conditions.
Team Leadership and Coordination:
- Manage and guide the estimation team, providing technical direction and support.
- Conduct training sessions for junior estimators to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Coordinate with other departments, including procurement, planning, and construction teams, to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Review and approve the work of team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors to clarify project specifications and resolve any discrepancies.
- Present and defend cost estimates and proposals to senior management, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on estimation progress and potential cost deviations.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in civil estimation and construction processes.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance estimation accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
- Review completed projects to assess the accuracy of the original estimates and adjust future estimation processes accordingly.
Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, Certified Estimator) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 10-12 years of experience in civil engineering estimation, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven track record in handling large-scale civil projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Primavera, AutoCAD, CostX, or similar tools).
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methodologies, and cost management.
- Knowledge of contract administration, project scheduling, and risk assessment.
Leadership Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
