Overall Role Purpose  

To strategically lead and optimize all gateway customs clearance operations and facility management. This role is accountable for ensuring seamless integration between domestic and international networks, achieving strict compliance with customs regulations, and delivering against key business objectives for service, cost, and transit times. Through strong leadership, process innovation, and stakeholder collaboration, the purpose is to drive operational excellence, foster team development, and maintain DHL's competitive advantage in gateway logistics.

Your Tasks:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage and develop gateway facilities and processes for optimal network integration.
  • Compliance & Risk Assurance: Guarantee legal adherence to all customs and trade regulations.
  • Performance Management: Monitor KPIs and drive corrective actions to meet business, service, and cost targets.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with authorities and senior management.
  • Team Development: Actively lead, motivate, and develop talent within the department.
  • Manage and develop all activities in Express Customs
  • Communicate and forward strategic and essential information to all employees.
  • Adapt and develop the business within the frame of the ongoing changes in the rules and regulations of KSA.

  • Be responsible for following and conduct the work environment responsibility according to your work environment delegation.
  • Overall goals/Typical measures: Clearance On Arrival – COA, Bond Outstanding – BOS, GTW PCS per Day Per FTE/ GTW Cost Per Pce, Duty Billing Quality and queries ,Customs fines and penalties , and reporting and management of Write offs

Your Profile:

Core Competencies:

-          Customs Expertise: In-depth knowledge of SA customs regulations, tariffs, and import/export procedures.

-          Regulatory Compliance: Ability to ensure compliance with customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements.

-          Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential customs risks and compliance issues.

-          Problem-solving: Effective problem-solving skills to address complex customs challenges.

-          Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with customs officials, clients, and internal teams.

-          Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate with customs authorities to expedite clearances and resolve disputes.

Technical Skills:

-          Customs Clearance Software: Proficiency in customs clearance software and systems.

-          Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.

-          Process Improvement: Knowledge of process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, 1st choice tools) to optimize customs operations.

Leadership Skills:

-          Team Management: Leading and managing a team of GTW & customs specialists.

-          Strategic Thinking: Developing and implementing strategies to improve customs clearance and GTW operations efficiency and effectiveness.

-          Decision-Making: Making timely and informed decisions under pressure.

-          Stakeholder Management: Building strong relationships with customs authorities and internal teams.
