Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform GTAW (TIG) and SMAW welding on various materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel, in accordance with approved welding procedures (WPS) and project specifications.
- Set up welding equipment, select appropriate filler metals, and prepare joints per drawings and WPS requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and documentation to determine welding sequence, fit-up, and quality criteria.
- Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections, verify weld dimensions, appearance, and structural integrity, and document results.
- Measure, cut, bevel, and fit components; perform alignment checks and hold tolerances within specified limits.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, including grinders, torches, and safety devices; report malfunctions promptly.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, welding codes, and environmental policies; participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve fabrication issues, ensure quality control, and support timely project delivery.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations; assist with inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) coordination when required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Certification in TIG (GTAW) and SMAW welding from a recognized authority (e.g., AWS, ASME, or equivalent).
- At least a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience; for internship level, relevant coursework or practicum in welding or fabrication is preferred.
- Proven ability to weld to industry codes and standards with a track record of high-quality workmanship.
- Strong understanding of welding procedures, joint preparation, heat control, and metallurgical considerations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, WPS/SPS, and QA documentation.
- Good manual dexterity, steady hands, and attention to detail; problem-solving mindset with a focus on quality and safety.
- Commitment to working in a fast-paced environment and willingness to perform overtime or shift work as needed.
- Proficiency in basic measurements and the use of measurement tools (calipers, micrometers) is desirable.
