The Chief Accountant is a crucial figure in the financial landscape of the organization, responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Chief Accountant will manage the accounting department, oversee financial transactions, and ensure that all financial statements are accurate and timely. Responsibilities:
- Record and process daily financial transactions, ensuring precision and adherence to deadlines.
- Facilitate the month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and necessary journal entries.
- Prepare and validate financial statements to accurately represent the organization’s financial status.
- Review and process employee expense claims, vendor invoices, and payments to ensure alignment with company policies.
- Oversee accounts receivable processes and conduct cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Manage accounts payable functions and nurture relationships with vendors.
- Assist in internal and external audits by supplying required documentation and clarifications.
- Generate financial reports and provide insights to support informed decision-making aligned with company goals.
- Analyze revenue and expense trends to identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
- Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Monitor and evaluate financial data to identify discrepancies and propose corrective actions.
- Guide and mentor accounting team members, offering training and support as necessary.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and enhance decision-making.
- Collaborate with the finance team to supply data for budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
- Track budget variances and communicate discrepancies to the Accounting & Finance Manager.
Preferred Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation is a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior accounting capacity, ideally within the agricultural sector.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP compliance.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office Suite, with advanced capabilities in Excel.
