Role Purpose:
Supporting Sustainable delivery of the NEOM Giga-Project
Key Accountabilities:
The Sustainability Division within the NEOM Environment Department is searching for a dynamic and innovative professional to join the NEOM Sustainability Team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an
experienced career professional with highly developed technical knowledge and project management skills. The NEOM giga-project aims to be the most environmentally conscious and sustainable development project on the planet. This role is critical in supporting the communication, engagement and implementation of the NEOM Environment Strategy.
The Senior Sustainability Manager supports the Director Sustainability with the implementation of all related sustainability initiatives and projects to support delivery of the NEOM Environment Strategy, through the NEOM Environment Company. The overall goal is to “shift the dial” on sustainability at NEOM across 3 areas:-
People & Culture
- Help recruit, coordinate manage and retain sustainability staff and sub-consultants engaged in the preparation of sustainability guidelines, standards, documentation, and project deliverables to support implementation of the NEOM Environmental Strategy and all initiatives.
- Manage NEOM Environment staff and teams, as required to develop and support the implementation of the NEOM Environment Strategy during procurement, design, construction and operations.
- Support and encourage participation in the Environmental Stewardship program and related employee engagement programs and training.
Leadership and Advocacy
- Support and contribute to development and delivery of the NEOM Environment Strategy and related Sustainability Risks and Opportunities, and promote these in all related tasks and engagements
- Identify and proactively engage with key internal and external stakeholders across NEOM as required to achieve delivery of all related areas of NEOM Environmental Strategy: Circularity, Climate Action, Decarbonisation and Sustainability
- Help to establish and participate in a NEOM wide Sustainability Leadership Forum.
- Research, propose and initiate appropriate external partnerships with suitable Global leadership groups in support of the Environment Strategy and related initiatives.
- Contribute as an active participant within the NEOM Environment Leadership Team and all related activities
Sustainability Implementation
- Participate in the development and implementation of NEOM Sustainability Framework, Code, and related KPI’s
- Provide guidance, expertise and recommendations related to regulatory and operational implementation of the Sustainable Supply- Chain Framework, Decarbonisation Circularity and Sustainable Built Environment, and other related strategies and implementation plans.
- Engage with related Proponents and Sectors to ensure active participation and contribution to the overall success and achievement of the NEOM Environmental Strategy.
- Participate in departmental budget considerations and processes and help ensure overall departmental budget approval and performance.
- Participate and contribute to annual NEOM Sustainability and ESG Report through strategy and KPI implementation
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The Senior Sustainability Manager should have a track record of initiating and delivering environmental and sustainability implementation programs for major infrastructure or mega-projects of international significance. In addition, their experience should ideally span the project development life cycle from procurement, construction, operations monitoring and reporting.
As a minimum the role will require:
- Fifteen (15) or more years’ experience across the fields of environment and sustainability
- Professional qualification and work experience with development, and/or implementation of ‘Sustainability Management Systems’.
- Proven record of successfully leading a sustainability program, policies and regulatory frameworks or processes.
- Strong technical project management skills in major development masterplans
- Strong written and verbal communication & report writing skills
- Strong leadership, interpersonal/ people management and mentoring skills.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Sustainability or Environmental Planning or Engineering in the built Environment
- Other qualifications in sustainability related to planning, design or engineering
