Assistant chief engineer

Responsibilities: To be responsible for the proper maintenance of the physical plant, engineering facilities, all electrical and mechanical equipment, kitchen equipment, controls, fire safety systems, the interior and exterior of the entire hotel, and other items pertaining to the operation of the hotel. To manage the engineering staff by promoting teamwork, efficiency, quality, productivity, and cost-sensitivity. To motivate subordinates by providing close assistance and know-how, promote professionalism, and show examples. To develop departmental training programs according to needs and safe, sound, and sustainable requirements and ensure training carried out is recorded in the training matrix. To ensure that all employee policies are abided by, that all engineering staff are managed with fairness and care, while maintaining high work ethics. To be responsible for the economical maintenance of the physical plant. To develop and maintain inspection, repairs, and maintenance for all building components. To establish and supervise the preventative maintenance programs. To establish a training program for the mechanical/electrical equipment operators. To observe on a daily basis the heat, light, and power consumption and to prepare monthly statistical reports and submit them to the hotel financial controller. To maintain a complete file of drawings, specifications, and equipment manuals for all equipment contained within the physical plant. To read the engineering logbook daily and take the necessary action as required, assigning jobs to colleagues through Hot So S. To make written recommendations to the DOE and ADOE about the replacement of inefficient or obsolete equipment. To ensure that the cost of work carried out by the engineering department is contained within the appropriate budget. To ensure that all personnel are trained in fire and life safety procedures. To take responsibility for the employment of subcontractors and for their compliance with hotel rules and regulations while performing repairs and maintenance work within the hotel premises. To provide technical “know-how” when required by engineering personnel.submit in writing any submissions required by the local authorities. To ensure that the record of the equipment card system is kept up-to-date.carry out spot checks, ensuring that the work as detailed in the work order has been executed in the most practical, skilled, and economical manner. To report to the DOE and ADOE immediately any unusual events that occur, whether it be in respect of the engineering operation, physical plant, or personnel. To provide input in preparing the annual repairs and maintenance, heat, light, and power budgets. To attend meetings as directed by DOE and ADOE. To promote goodwill and create a pleasant atmosphere amongst fellow colleagues. To ensure that the administration of the preventative maintenance plan is strictly adhered to. To update the preventive maintenance plan on monthly basis. To carry out an inventory of spare parts where required. To ensure that engineering employees abides by all rules, regulations and policies. To ensure that all certificates, licenses, and other documents are obtained on a yearly basis as required by the government and local authorities. Record to be kept in a separate binder for review by all authorities. To maintain all logbooks as per Engineering Policies & Procedures. To co-ordinate with all other departments by maintaining close communication with their respective managers To keep all planned preventive maintenance programs up-to-date. To take responsibility for the coordination of the guestroom PPM in conjunction with the Executive Housekeeper and Director of Rooms. To carry out any other reasonable requests as directed by your manager Health and Safety To be aware of and comply with, safe working practices as laid down under the Company H & S Manual, as applicable to your place of work. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards at your workplace To be aware of and comply with Food Hygiene standards. To wear any appropriate protective clothing provided by or recommended by the Hotel. To report any defects in the building, plant or equipment according to the Hotel procedures. To ensure any accidents involving colleagues, guests or visitors are reported in accordance with Hotel procedures. To attend statutory fire training and to be fully conversant with and abide by all rules concerning, fire, health & safety. To attend any training deemed appropriate by your Head of Department. To elect a departmental health & safety representative To ensure H&S representative attend all meetings To undertake responsibility for supervising, training and instructing colleagues in terms of H & S. Sustainable Responsibilities: This role involves implementing eco-friendly practices, educating guests/colleagues on sustainable initiatives, and continuously seeking ways to minimize the hotel's environmental footprint. Knowledge of waste sorting and recycling procedures. Energy Conservation: Water Conservation. Supporting sustainability initiatives.
