Job Description:
- Receiving, labelling, and processing patient specimens, including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids, following standard protocols and safety procedures.
- Preparing specimens for analysis, centrifuging blood samples, aliquoting urine samples, and performing pre-analytical processing steps to ensure sample integrity.
- Performing a variety of routine laboratory tests and analyses, including hematology, clinical chemistry, immunology, microbiology, and coagulation assays, using manual techniques or automated instrumentation.
- Operating laboratory equipment, such as hematology analyzers, chemistry analyzers, and microscopes, to process and analyze patient samples accurately.
- Analyzing test results, interpreting findings, and verifying accuracy of laboratory data, ensuring proper documentation and reporting of test results in electronic medical records (EMR) or laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Notifying healthcare providers of critical or abnormal test results promptly, following established protocols for result reporting and communication.
- Conducting quality control checks, calibration, and proficiency testing on laboratory instruments and reagents to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Monitoring assay performance, interpret quality control data, and troubleshoot technical issues to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and quality assurance requirements.
- Performing routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including daily instrument checks, preventive maintenance tasks, and minor repairs as needed.
- Adhering to laboratory safety protocols, biohazard precautions, and infection control practices to minimize occupational hazards and ensure a safe work environment.
- Handling and disposing hazardous materials, chemical reagents, and biohazardous waste according to regulatory guidelines and institutional policies.
- Performing other professional duties as assigned from the line manager.
Education / Professional Qualifications:
- Education Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Years of Experience: Up to 2 years of experience within a related field.
