Electrical Supervisor

Job Overview:

The Electrical Supervisor (FM) is responsible for overseeing the electrical systems within a facility, ensuring their smooth operation, maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. This role involves supervising a team of electricians, coordinating maintenance schedules, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring the efficient functioning of all electrical infrastructure in the facility. The Electrical Supervisor will work closely with the Facilities Management team to deliver high-quality services to building occupants and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Team Management:
  • Supervise a team of electricians and technicians to perform daily electrical tasks.
  • Provide training and guidance to the team on electrical safety, best practices, and new technologies.
  • Ensure that the team follows all safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Oversee the preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, emergency systems, and backup generators.
  • Monitor and inspect electrical equipment to identify issues before they become critical.
  • Coordinate emergency electrical repairs to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Planning and Scheduling:
  • Plan and schedule regular electrical maintenance activities to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and ensure that tasks are completed on time and in accordance with FM service agreements.
  • Manage the inventory of electrical supplies, ensuring availability of necessary parts and materials.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure that all work is performed according to local, state, and national electrical codes.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Perform quality checks on electrical systems and installations to ensure they meet performance standards.
  • Review and approve electrical work completed by contractors or external service providers.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Prepare reports on electrical systems' performance and issues, presenting recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of electrical tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Budget and Cost Management:
  • Assist with budgeting for electrical maintenance and repairs.
  • Manage the allocation of resources and ensure that work is completed within the allocated budget.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with the Facilities Management team, contractors, and other departments to resolve any issues related to electrical systems.
  • Communicate effectively with the Facilities Manager to report on ongoing projects and any urgent issues.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
  • A Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Electrical Apprenticeship or relevant certification (e.g., City & Guilds, NEC certification, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical maintenance or facilities management.
  • Previous supervisory experience in managing an electrical team within a facilities management context is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, wiring, and equipment.
  • Experience with power distribution, lighting, backup generators, and building management systems (BMS).
  • Proficiency in using electrical tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Certifications (optional but preferred):
  • Electrical Safety Certifications.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Health and Safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Personal Attributes:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations efficiently.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, with potential for shift work or on-call availability.
  • May require working in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, and dealing with high-voltage equipment.
  • Occasional travel between sites may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces or on ladders when necessary.
