Student Counselor

A Student Counselor is responsible for supporting students by providing guidance on academic and personal issues, offering mental health support, and helping with career planning. The ultimate goal is to enhance students' well-being and academic performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To Help students & develop career plans.
  • Help students understand the college policy and may help them identify financial aid and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • To help students work through difficult social situations.
  • Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for students in a crisis condition and for those with serious disturbance problems
  • Interacting with students to identify solutions and set achievable goals
  • Listening to students and their worries and observing their behaviors in a non-judgmental manner
  • Mediating conflicts and finding resolutions between students, teachers, and students and parents and teachers
  • Reporting potential violence or abuse against students through the proper channels
  • Be a student advocate
  • Communicate with appropriate staff to understand student issues, then develop and implement strategies/interventions for individual students and review their impact; further adjusting the methods until the issue has been resolved.
  • Consult and communicate with parents regarding the counseling services and support available.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff, enabling them to better identify and support students with emotional health and wellbeing issues.
  • Compile and maintain secure and confidential records of all counseling sessions and ensure that confidentiality is maintained.

Requirements

Education: Holder of master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field from a reputable University.

Skills:

  • Experience handling administrative duties efficiently and effectively, Experience in mental health support and familiarity with the unique pressures of medical education is a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to working with and encouraging diversity
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective organization and administrative skills
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in both English and Arabic is preferred.
  • Knowledge Microsoft Office.
