Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Secondary Design Engineer to serve as the technical authority for HV substation protection, control, SCADA, and LV auxiliary systems. This role combines deep engineering expertise with project leadership, client coordination, and team mentorship to deliver complex HV & EHV substation projects successfully.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Engineering Lead the design of protection & control systems, SCADA architecture, and AC/DC auxiliary systems for HV & EHV substations. Prepare and review design deliverables including:CT/VT Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) Protection Logic Diagrams (PLD) MOLDWiring & logic diagrams Interface documents Ensure compliance with project specifications, IEC/IEEE/SEC standards, and client requirements.
Protection & Relay Settings Perform relay setting calculations for voltage levels from 33 k V up to 765 k V. Conduct protection coordination studies using TCC curve analysis. Develop and review advanced protection schemes, including:Busbar Differential Restricted Earth Fault (REF) Distance & Line Protection
Project & Quality Management Manage design schedules, man-hours, and deliverables to meet project timelines and budgets. Ensure high-quality outputs through structured reviews and adherence to QA/QC processes.
Stakeholder & Client Coordination Participate in technical meetings with clients and consultants. Manage customer comments and support design clarifications throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership Supervise and mentor design engineers, draftsmen, and subcontractors, including multi-location teams. Ensure consistency in engineering practices and provide technical guidance.
Procurement & Manufacturing Support Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, and Bills of Materials (BOM) for LV and secondary equipment. Support procurement activities, vendor evaluations, and manufacturing follow-ups.
Qualifications & Experience
Education Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience5–10+ years of experience in EHV & HV substation secondary systems. Proven experience leading medium to large-scale engineering projects.
Technical Skills Proficiency in Auto CAD, Micro Station, or equivalent CAD tools. Strong expertise in:Protection relays and schemes IEC 61850 substation automation LV auxiliary system design Hands-on experience with relay configuration & settings. Ability to perform:CT/VT sizing Battery sizing Cable voltage drop calculations Protection relay settings Experience with system study tools such as ETAP, ASPEN One Liner, CAPE, or DIgSILENT Power Factory. Capability to lead post-fault analysis, review disturbance records, and recommend corrective actions. Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, and SEC protection standards.
