About the Role

This position is for a Senior Software Engineer, DevOps (Azure) role, managed by a partner company that handles all application processes. The role focuses on designing, building, and operating scalable, secure, and highly available Azure cloud environments. The engineer will oversee the entire infrastructure lifecycle, supporting development teams through CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud-native practices. This position involves managing production-critical systems across Kubernetes, API gateways, event-driven architectures, and distributed cloud services, requiring strong expertise in Azure, with an emphasis on reliability, automation, and operational excellence. Collaboration with developers is essential to streamline delivery, enhance performance, and ensure secure deployments. The role offers an opportunity to influence cloud infrastructure strategy within a fully remote, globally distributed engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain production-grade Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep) for scalable and reproducible cloud environments.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps YAML, incorporating automated testing, deployment gates, and secure delivery workflows.
  • Operate and optimize Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including cluster performance tuning, autoscaling, Helm deployments, and networking configurations.
  • Manage and support Azure API Management, Azure App Gateway, and Azure Front Door for secure and high-performance application delivery.
  • Support event-driven architectures using Azure Event Hubs (including Kafka support) for real-time data processing and microservices communication.
  • Ensure production reliability through monitoring with Azure Monitor and Application Insights, incident response, and root cause analysis.
  • Enforce cloud security best practices using Azure Entra ID, RBAC, Key Vault, Azure Policy, and container security controls.
  • Collaborate with development teams to enhance DevOps maturity, Git workflows, and cloud-native engineering practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Engineering within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with core Azure services, including VNets, NSGs, load balancers, and storage solutions.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or equivalent tools.
  • Deep experience with AKS in production environments, covering scaling, networking, and workload optimization.
  • Solid knowledge of Azure APIM, App Gateway, and Event Hubs, with preferred experience in Kafka integration.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and/or Python.
  • A strong understanding of cloud security principles, including identity management, vulnerability scanning, and secure CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across engineering and product teams.
  • Comfort working independently in agile, fast-paced, remote environments.
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-400 or AZ-305 are considered an advantage.
  • Experience with GitOps (Flux or ArgoCD), service meshes (Istio), or FinOps practices is a plus.
