Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a Refining & Optimization Specialist with specialization in the use of linear programming (LP) tools for the optimization of refining process units to join our Operation Engineering Solutions Department.

The Operation Engineering Solutions Department, under Global Manufacturing, is responsible for providing specialized and timely operations and process engineering support to all process technologies operated in both wholly-owned and affiliated refining and chemicals operating facilities, collectively known as Saudi Aramco Global Manufacturing. The department steers and stewards refining and petrochemical optimization, performance benchmarking, technology stewardship, and engineering best practices across the Global Manufacturing portfolio.

Your primary role is to deliver expert optimization and economic advisory services to wholly-owned and affiliated refining and chemicals facilities, ensuring that Linear Programming models reliably represent reality, drive margin uplift across the portfolio, and inform strategic and capital decision-making at the corporate level.

  • Conduct process optimization studies on assets to identify business opportunities
  • Analyze Product giveaway root causes and develop solutions through working with multidisciplinary team to ensure optimum operations.
  • Review hydrocarbon losses of assets and analyze the root causes including but not limited to; flaring, unreliability events and unaccounted losses
  • Perform comprehensive technical and economic evaluations of projects and opportunities using Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, and other financial metrics, supporting decision-making from screening through closure and prioritizing initiatives against investment criteria and downstream strategy.
  • Provide expert technical advisory support to refining leadership on Linear Programming and optimization matters, including crude selection, product slate, process unit configuration, and operational constraints, communicating results and recommendations to ensure successful implementation and monitoring of actions.
  • Coordinate and collaborate across technical, planning, scheduling, and economics functions to ensure alignment and integration of Linear Programming assumptions, results, and objectives.
  • Deliver training and coaching to refining Linear Programming users, and develop and update Linear Programming manuals and guidelines to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.

Desired Candidate Profile

You will hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related specialization from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.

You will have 15 years experience in refining Linear Programming, including at least 10 years in Linear Programming modeling, optimization, and economics. Additionally, you must possess extensive hands-on experience in refining process engineering, with a primary background in a complex main unit such as Continuous Catalytic Reforming (CCR) or Hydrocracking.

You will have supplementary experience in refinery overall optimization and monitoring including management of product giveaway, blending applications and mass balance performance.

You will have hands-on refining Linear Programming experience as a core requirement; petrochemicals or chemicals Linear Programming exposure is preferred as an additional strength.

You must have demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard Linear Programming modeling platforms (for example, Aspen PIMS, PIMS-AO, PIMS Platinum, Haverly GRTMPS, Honeywell RPMS) and in supporting tools for crude assay management and sub-model maintenance. Please specify the platforms and tools used in your application.

You will be able to demonstrate Linear Programming modeling experience across multiple, diverse refining configurations, including atmospheric and vacuum distillation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, continuous catalytic reforming, aromatics, and hydroprocessing. Single-site or single-configuration experience is not acceptable.

Hands-on refining Linear Programming technical service experience is a requirement; experience predominantly on the licensor side or in Linear Programming-related project or design work will not be considered.

You must have a proven track record of applying Linear Programming models to drive significant improvements in refining margin, with specific quantified examples such as margin uplift, crude diet flexibility, product slate optimization, or energy cost reduction.

Extensive knowledge of refining processes and economics, together with familiarity with global crude and product markets and trends, is required.
