Position Title: MEP Manager (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing)
Job Summary
The MEP Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, design management, execution, testing, commissioning, and handover of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated ELV/fire protection systems within a project or portfolio of projects. The role ensures technical compliance, cost control, quality assurance, safety, and timely delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical & Design Management
- Manage and coordinate all MEP engineering activities from concept through detailed design and execution.
- Review and approve MEP designs, calculations, specifications, shop drawings, and material submittals.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, local authority regulations, international codes, and client standards.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary integration between MEP, architectural, structural, and specialist systems.
- Lead value engineering and optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, constructability, and lifecycle performance.
2. Project Planning & Execution
- Develop and monitor MEP execution strategies, schedules, manpower requirements, and procurement plans.
- Supervise installation activities to ensure work is executed according to approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives for smooth project delivery.
- Identify technical risks, delays, and clashes and implement corrective actions proactively.
- Monitor project progress, productivity, and resource utilization.
3. Procurement & Material Management
- Review and approve technical submittals and vendor proposals.
- Support procurement teams in technical evaluations and equipment selection.
- Ensure long-lead MEP items are identified and procured in accordance with project schedules.
- Coordinate factory inspections, FATs, and equipment approvals where required.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure implementation of QA/QC procedures for all MEP systems.
- Conduct inspections and technical reviews to maintain installation quality.
- Verify compliance with applicable standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, SBC, IPC, UPC, SMACNA, and project specifications.
- Review method statements, ITPs, testing procedures, and commissioning plans.
5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Oversee testing and commissioning of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, BMS, and ELV systems.
- Coordinate integrated system testing and authority inspections.
- Ensure all systems achieve required performance criteria and operational readiness.
- Manage preparation of O&M manuals, training, warranties, as-built documentation, and project closeout deliverables.
6. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and mentor MEP engineers, supervisors, BIM coordinators, and site teams.
- Conduct coordination meetings and technical workshops.
- Assign responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Foster a collaborative and technically driven project environment.
7. Health, Safety & Sustainability
- Ensure MEP activities comply with project HSE requirements and safe work practices.
- Support sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency, water conservation, and green building compliance where applicable.
- Promote safe installation and commissioning practices on site.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Professional certifications or memberships are an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems integration.
- Proficiency in engineering and project management software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, MS Project, Primavera, and BIM platforms.
Experience Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in MEP engineering and project delivery.
- Experience managing large-scale commercial, healthcare, industrial, hospitality, infrastructure, or district cooling projects is preferred.
- Proven experience in design coordination, construction supervision, and commissioning management.
