Roles & Responsibilities

Network & ICT Infrastructure

  • Design mission critical networks (L2/L3, OSPF/BGP, MPLS/SD WAN, VXLAN/EVPN).
  • Develop ICT infrastructure for stations, substations, depots, SER/BER rooms and industrial control rooms.
  • Design fibre backbone, structured cabling, and FTTx solutions for large-scale facilities.
  • Produce HLD/LLD, ICDs, IP plans, firewall policies, network security architecture.

Wi Fi & Radio Systems

  • Design Wi Fi networks for stations, depots, OCC, yards, tunnels and industrial buildings.
  • Engineer TETRA, DMR, LTE/5G private networks, DAS, tunnel radio systems, GSM calculations.
  • Conduct RF planning, coverage analysis, and interference mitigation for mission-critical environments.
  • Integrate satellite communications for remote depots and substations.

IoT Based ICT Systems

  • Design IoT enabled ICT systems for rail, substation and industrial applications (condition monitoring, energy metering, asset tracking).
  • Ensure secure ICT OT IoT convergence in line with IEC 62443 and ISO 27001.

BMS / SCADA Integration

  • Design BMS systems using BACnet/IP, Modbus, KNX.
  • Integrate with SCADA/ICS, traction power monitoring, energy management platforms.
  • Support IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging for substation automation.
  • Implement virtualized SCADA/ICS environments for resilience and testing.
  • Design and implement railway telecoms systems including TETRA/TEDS radio, CCTV, Public Address and Passenger Information Systems (PA/PIS), Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), fibre optic networks, and IP/MPLS backbone networks.
  • Prepare technical specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and design drawings for all telecoms subsystems.
  • Coordinate interface requirements between telecoms and other rail systems including signalling, control systems, rolling stock, and Operations Control Centre (OCC).
  • Review and approve contractor design submittals, shop drawings, and equipment datasheets for technical compliance.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of telecoms equipment and networks across stations, depots, and wayside locations.
  • Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures for all telecoms subsystems.
  • Ensure all telecoms systems comply with applicable standards (TETRA, GSM-R, IEEE, ITU) and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor system performance post-commissioning; troubleshoot network faults, connectivity issues, and hardware failures.
  • Coordinate with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure network integrity and compliance with data security policies.
  • Prepare operations and maintenance manuals, system architecture documentation, and as-built drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance and support during operational readiness reviews and trial running phases.

Key Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, fibre optic networks, and wireless communication systems.
  • Experience with TETRA, GSM-R, CCTV, and PA/PIS systems in a rail environment.
  • Proficiency in network management and monitoring tools.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles in critical infrastructure.

Overview

Design, implement, and oversee all railway telecommunications systems to support safe operations, passenger information, and system-wide communications.

Senior Rail Telecommunication Engineer who will be responsible for site inspections, witness testing, technical coordination and general support of rail communication systems including SCADA, CCTV, PA, VMS, Radio, Fiber Backbone, etc.
