Roles & Responsibilities
Support the review of client specifications.
Support the generation of technical specifications, review of vendor RFPs, and vendor selection.
Support project proposal generation.
Support the technical oversight of vendor designs and submittals.
Interface with other design groups (including Fixed Facilities, Trackwork, PS&D, Comms, etc.) and with external team members and stakeholders (architects, code consultants, AHJs, major suppliers, etc.).
Interface with revenue vehicle suppliers for the integration of ATC/CBTC systems into the vehicle.
Interface with vehicle suppliers on the application of, and technical requirements for, ATC/CBTC on a passenger carrying system.
Interaction with Design Management and Technical Leads.
Interaction with Construction Management and Delivery Leads.
Interaction with O&M/M&R Management and Support Leads.
Interaction with the final client on the implementation of ATO/CBTC system.
Support of construction and installation activities in the field.
Support for Test & Commissioning and setting to work of mass transit, urban rail and heavy freight signalling and control systems.
Support for System Assurance/V&V teams in the delivery of mass transit and commuter/ urban rail signalling and control systems.
Lead systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle: concept, design, integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance.
Oversee requirements, interface and configuration management, ensuring traceability and evidence-based compliance throughout the lifecycle.
Develop and implement engineering strategies to improve system efficiency, performance, and competitiveness.
Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 15288, CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129, and other relevant standards and regulations.
Manage system integration across subsystems (e.g., signaling, rolling stock, telecom, power) to ensure harmonious operation.
Identify and mitigate system-level risks through structured risk management plans.
Design, develop, and maintain Automatic Train Control (ATC), CBTC, SCADA, and interlocking systems.
Prepare and review technical specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and engineering drawings for control systems.
Coordinate system integration activities between signalling, telecommunications, traction power, and rolling stock disciplines.
Review and approve contractor submittals, method statements, and shop drawings for compliance with project requirements.
Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures.
Monitor and troubleshoot control system operations; perform root cause analysis for system failures and implement corrective actions.
Ensure all control system designs comply with applicable railway standards and safety regulations.
Support RAMS activities and contribute to system safety case development.
Prepare workplans, progress reports, and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Liaise with operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth system handover and operational readiness.
Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and contractors on control systems matters.
Key Competencies
- Strong knowledge of CBTC, ATC, PLC, and SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio, and relevant engineering software.
- Experience with systems integration in rail transit environments.
- Understanding of safety-critical software and hardware development lifecycles.
