Job DescriptionOverview

Manage and coordinate all technical, operational, and maintenance activities within the rail depot to ensure availability and reliability of rolling stock and depot infrastructure.


Your role
  • Manage all technical and operational activities within the rail depot including stabling, maintenance facilities, wash plants, fuelling systems, and depot infrastructure.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for rolling stock, depot equipment, and building services.
  • Coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities to ensure maximum rolling stock availability in alignment with operational requirements.
  • Manage and oversee depot contractor and subcontractor activities, ensuring compliance with HSE requirements, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Liaise with rolling stock, operations, facilities management, and systems engineering teams to ensure depot operational readiness.
  • Monitor depot Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including fleet availability, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and maintenance turnaround times.
  • Conduct depot safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments; implement corrective actions to address identified hazards.
  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities for new rolling stock deliveries and depot equipment installations.
  • Manage interface coordination between depot civil works and rail systems (signalling, traction power, telecoms).
  • Prepare and manage the depot maintenance budget, tracking expenditure and identifying cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain depot operational procedures, maintenance instructions, and safety management documentation.

Key Competencies


  • Strong knowledge of rolling stock maintenance practices and depot operations.
  • Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Understanding of HSE regulations and safe systems of work in depot environments.
  • Familiarity with RAMS principles and their application to maintenance planning.
About you
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering preferred (Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • 15+ years’ experience in engineering (10+ years’ experience in rail and transit engineering in Middle East).
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is generally required. However, extensive experience may be substituted in lieu of licensing.
