Position: Breathing Air Breathing air (BA) & Gas Detection Systems (GDS) Specialist (Downstream)
Job Summary Highly qualified specialist responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Breathing Air (BA) compressor systems and Self containing Breathing apparatus, Fixed and Portable gas detection systems and devices (GDS). The role requires strong technical expertise, excellent client communication, the ability to prepare accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials) and maintenance plans, Training Skills and the capability to work independently at site locations and remotely with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities 1) BA Compressor Systems – Inspect, Maintenance, Repair (Bauer BA compressors) Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance for BA compressors- Intake filtration systems, moisture separators, drains (manual/automatic), dryers (refrigerated/desiccant), and filtration towers Pressure regulating devices, safety valves/relief valves, gauges, pressure switches, and instrumentation. Electrical panels, motor checks, starters/VFD (if applicable), emergency stop circuits, and control logic checks. Execute troubleshooting for issues Conduct compressor performance verification and functional checks: - Pressure build-up tests, leak identification, run-hour tracking, differential pressure checks across filters, and dew point checks reducing moisture risks. Oversee and document repairs, including component replacement, alignment checks, belt/coupling inspection, and recommissioning after repair work. Ensure BA compressor system readiness for operational needs, including coordination for shutdown windows and critical service timelines.
2) Fixed and Portable Gas Detection & Monitoring Systems (GDS) Maintain and troubleshooting fixed gas detection systems. Sensors/transmitters, sampling lines, pumps, calibration gas arrangements, alarm panels, annunciators, relays, and interface modules. Conduct calibration and bump testing as required by client procedures and manufacturer recommendations. Diagnose faults (signal drift, sensor poisoning, wiring faults, communication loop issues, alarm faults, sampling failure. Verify alarm setpoints, alarm logic, audible/visual alarms, and control outputs (shutdowns/ventilation interlocks where used). Produce accurate test records and certificates in line with client and OEM requirements.
3) BA Breathing Apparatus (Maintenance, Planning & Compliance) Perform maintenance programs for BA-related equipment where site scope requires (e.g., compressor charging interfaces, filling, storage cylinders/banks, pressure reducers, hoses, connectors). Ensure equipment is maintained to relevant standards and client procedures. Coordinate inspection schedules, service intervals, and readiness checks for critical safety equipment.
4) POSI Check / Annual Testing & Verification (SCBA) Perform or coordinate annual tests / POSI checks of SCBA (SCOTT and MSA SCBA models) Ensuring traceable documentation, test sheets, and compliance evidence are completed correctly.

5) BOM Creation (CM / PM & Documentation) Create and maintain accurate BOMs to perform P/M and C/M for BA compressors, and GDS components, Breathing air air loop system, SCBA etc…OEM part numbers, alternative equivalents (approved), consumables, and recommended spares. Develop and improve maintenance documentation:PM checklists, job plans, service procedures, troubleshooting guides, and recommended spares lists. Prepare service reports with clear findings, root cause, corrective actions, and recommendations.6) Client Communication, Coordination & Reporting Manage professional communication with clients for:Work planning, access/permits coordination, material approvals, progress updates, and close-out reports. Participate in site meetings when required, providing technical clarifications and status updates. Maintain clear email communication and ensure records are properly filed/shared according to client expectations.7) HSE and Quality Requirements Follow site HSE rules strictly, including permit-to-work systems, JSA/JHA, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), confined space awareness (if applicable), and tool/equipment inspection practices. Promote safe working practices and stop working where unsafe conditions exist. Ensure all calibrations, inspections, and maintenance activities are performed to required quality standards and documented properly.8) Training Effectively conduct hands-on training for client employees on-site regarding the operation and use of breathing apparatus, ensuring that all sessions are scheduled, coordinated, and executed according to the client's requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience Technical diploma or equivalent in Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electrical, or related field (industry-recognized certifications are an advantage). Strong hands-on experience with:BA compressors, filling panels, cylinder bank systems. Fixed gas detection systems and sensor calibration methods. Experience working in upstream and downstream oil & gas / petrochemical / energy / industrial environments (plants, terminals, refineries, offshore/onshore facilities) Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including remote support/troubleshooting. Proven ability to write clear technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
Technical Skills (Must Have) Solid understanding of breathing air compressor system architecture and typical failure modes. Ability to interpret: P&IDs, single line diagrams (basic), wiring diagrams, OEM manuals, and maintenance procedures. Competence in troubleshooting:Electrical/control faults (basic to intermediate), instrumentation loops, pressure/dew point issues, filtration performance. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) for reporting, logs, spares lists, and tracking.
Soft Skills (Must Have) Strong written and spoken communication (email, phone, client-facing discussions). Good coordination skills across operations, maintenance, HSE, and procurement teams. Reliable documentation habits and attention to detail (especially for critical safety systems).
Licensing / Other Requirements Valid driving license (required). Willing and able to travel to client sites and work in industrial environments. Ability to work remotely and respond to urgent troubleshooting support when needed (as agreed).
Preferred / Advantageous OEM training or certificates related to BA compressors, breathing air systems, or fixed gas detection brands commonly used in oil & gas. Experience managing spares planning and maintenance scheduling. Familiarity with breathing air quality standards used in industry (as applicable to client/site requirements) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (Examples) Compressor/GDS uptime and reduced unplanned downtime. Compliance completion rate for annual tests/POSI checks and PM schedules. Quality of documentation (reports, certificates, BOM accuracy). Client satisfaction and responsiveness. Zero HSE incidents and full adherence to site rules.
Working Conditions Field-based role with site visits to upstream and downstream facilities; some remote work and remote support required. Possible after-hours or weekend work during shutdowns or urgent breakdowns (as per site requirements).
