Job Summary:

The Procurement Engineer is responsible for managing the purchasing and procurement of materials, equipment, and services for construction projects. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining cost efficiency while adhering to project requirements and quality standards. The Procurement Engineer works closely with project teams to ensure that all materials and services meet technical specifications and construction schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

1- Procurement Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop procurement strategies based on project needs, timelines, and budget constraints.
  • Work with project managers and engineers to determine the materials and equipment required for construction projects.
  • Create procurement schedules and ensure alignment with project timelines.

2- Supplier Evaluation and Selection:

  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and vendors based on price, quality, reliability, and delivery capabilities.
  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best value for the company.

3- Purchasing and Negotiation:

  • Issue purchase orders and manage the procurement process, ensuring materials and equipment are ordered and delivered on time.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and payment conditions with suppliers to optimize cost efficiency and ensure project success.
  • Resolve any issues related to delayed deliveries, damaged goods, or non-compliant materials.

4- Technical and Quality Compliance:

  • Ensure that all procured materials and equipment meet the technical specifications and quality standards required for the project.
  • Review supplier documentation and certificates to confirm compliance with engineering and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to verify material quality and suitability for construction use.

5- Vendor Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure long-term partnerships.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, product quality, and responsiveness to issues.
  • Work closely with suppliers to resolve any supply chain disruptions or delays.

6- Cost Control and Budget Management:

  • Monitor procurement costs and ensure they remain within project budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through effective negotiation and supplier management.
  • Prepare and present procurement cost reports to management, highlighting any potential cost overruns or savings.

7- Logistics and Inventory Management:

  • Coordinate the logistics and transportation of materials and equipment to construction sites, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Work with inventory management teams to track material usage and maintain appropriate stock levels on-site.
  • Address any logistics challenges, such as customs clearance or transportation delays, to prevent project disruptions.

8- Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, supplier contracts, and material certifications.
  • Assist in audits and compliance reviews related to procurement practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and services.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, purchase orders, and vendor management practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
