Planning Engineer

Key Role and Objective The principal function of this position:

• The Planning Engineer is responsible to the Lead or Senior Planning Engineer for the overall planning, scheduling, programming, and monitoring of the schedule of design services for the projects allocated to him;

• With guidance, undertake the preparation of Design and Construction schedules based on the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) in close coordination with Quantity Surveying team;

• Assist the Senior Planning Engineer with the preparation of Weekly Report, Monthly Report, Engineering Progress and Performance Report (EPPR) for the projects assigned;

• The Planning Engineer will also assist in the reporting the percentage completion of the assigned work activities to the Senior Planning Engineer. Key Areas of Responsibility The priorities of this role include:

• Reports and is responsible to the Lead or Senior Planning Engineer and Project Managers for assigned projects on a day-to-day basis;

• Assists the Senior Planning Engineer in the preparation of detailed Resource & Cost Loaded Schedules, Bar Chart, S-Curves and Cash Flow Charts and Analysis for the assigned projects;

• Maintain the Current and Baseline schedule for the assigned projects and analyse the effect of proposed changes;

• Ensures that the Senior Planning Engineer is fully aware of the project schedule activities, and any delays etc;

• Assists with the resolution of task and resource conflicts, incorrect scheduling etc;

• Assists in the provision of guidance and advice to the Project Manager and technical Team Leads on design planning and scheduling issues;

• Assists in the establishment of monitoring and controlling measures and process necessary to track project performance to budget, time, and scope for the assigned projects;

• Provides reports on short term targets due imminently and provides advance information to the Project Managers and technical Team Leads on upcoming targets due in the coming weeks for the assigned projects;

• Multi discipline coordination with Project Managers and Lead Engineers regarding schedule changes, remedial measures, discrepancies etc;

• Reports weekly on overall schedule and performance of the projects to the Project Managers in the delivery office and Lead Planning Engineer in Khobar;

• Follows up with the technical Team Leads and any other remote staff on progress and issues preventing satisfactory progress;

• Deals with any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Senior Planning Engineer.


Key Requirements and Characteristics The post requires the demonstration of the following skills and knowledge:

• Must have high level of knowledge of planning and scheduling utilising Primavera software planning and monitoring program in the architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design environment and be hardworking;

• The candidate will be outgoing, with good communications and interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have demonstrated initiative in getting planning tasks completed correctly and on-time.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience The minimum required qualifications and experience for this position are as follows:

• Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognised university;

• Minimum Experience: Minimum of 9 years’ experience with either a consultant or client of which a minimum of 4 years must have been as a dedicated Planning Engineer;

• Further Qualifications: Extensive Primavera P6 Project Planner experience of latest version, scheduling program skills essential together with proficiency in MS Excel spreadsheet, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint capability;

• Further Experience: a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Middle East and a minimum of one year experience working on projects for the Royal Commission (RC) of Jubail and Yanbu, SABIC or similar organisation required.
