KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Strategic:


  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid facilities, and communication protocols. Conduct regular drills to assess the effectiveness of emergency preparedness measures.
  • Apply health and safety rules in all stages of work and follow-up implementation to create healthy & safe company culture.

Work on initiatives for the continual improvements in health, safety and environmental activities.


Operational:


  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify hazards, unsafe practices, or non-compliance. Report the any deviations and follow-up on the corrective, preventive actions.
  •  Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents to determine causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintain accurate records of all incidents and provide timely reports to the line manager.
  •  Assist in implementing HSE procedures, risk assessments, and safety audits in food production and storage areas.
  •  Support and participate in accident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  •  Track and report HSE KPIs (e.g., TRIR, near-miss frequency, environmental compliance scores).
  •  Deliver HSE training and toolbox talks to employees on topics such as hygiene, food safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), chemical handling, etc.
  •  Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE and monitor environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, noise, humidity).
  •  Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Production teams to ensure cross-functional compliance with food safety and hygiene standards (e.g., BRC, GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000).
  •  Monitor waste management, chemical storage, and pest control practices to ensure environmental compliance.
  •  Participate in HSE audits and support third-party inspections or certification processes.
  •  Coordinate with respective functions to ensure that safety and environmental emission standards are being met on an ongoing basis.
  •  Conduct evacuation drills as per the plan.
  •  Ensure the compliance levels of factories, warehouses etc as per civil defence, Ministry of Environments, industrial area authority etc.
  •  Coordinate with departments to ensure that safety checks are conducted on a regular basis on factory buildings, accommodation etc.
  •  Ensure firefighting system in factory buildings, accommodation, warehouse etc. are functional and coordinate the inspections together with contracted service provider, conduct any quick fixes if applicable.
  •  Conduct thorough risk assessments of workplace activities, machinery, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards. Develop and implement appropriate measures to minimize risks and prevent accidents or incidents.
  •  Implement and enforce safe work practices including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and machine safety.
  •  Oversee fact-finding investigations in case of accidents and advise site heads on remedial action plans
  •  Liaise with maintenance function to ensure maintenance and upkeep of safety related equipment as per safety norms on a regular basis.
  •  Organize and conduct HSE, first aid trainings; conduct practical demonstrations on the usage of safety equipment.
  •  Coordinate regulatory authority visits and ensure all compliance level.
  • Support hygiene practices that protect both worker safety and food product integrity.


Skills

Academic and professional qualifications:


 bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or occupational health & safety, Environmental Science or any relevant science discipline.


Experience:

 Minimum 2 years of experience in HSE function preferably in food industries.

 Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).

 Good communication, training, and reporting skills.

Certifications in NEBOSH, ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001, ISO22000, BRCGS will be considered as added value.
