Network Technician

The Network Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting IT and communication networks within water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role ensures reliable connectivity for SCADA systems, control rooms, telemetry devices, and other operational technology critical to plant and infrastructure operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, connectivity issues, and system alarms to ensure uninterrupted communication between field devices and control systems.
  • Support SCADA, telemetry, and control systems connectivity for water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and distribution networks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and upgrades of network hardware and software.
  • Assist in implementing cybersecurity measures and follow best practices for network security.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and incidents.
  • Coordinate with IT, operations, and engineering teams to ensure network reliability and system integration.
  • Respond to network-related emergencies and outages promptly to minimize operational downtime.
  • Test and validate network solutions during commissioning of new facilities or upgrades.


Skills

  • Experience in network support, preferably in industrial, utility, or water/wastewater environments.
  • Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN, routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless networks.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, and telemetry system networking (preferred).
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, etc.).
