The CMDB Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Configuration

Management Database (CMDB), which contains information about the organization’s IT

assets, their relationships, and configurations. The role ensures that all configuration items

(CIs) are accurately documented and maintained, supporting IT service management

(ITSM) processes such as incident, problem, change, and release management.

Key Responsibilities: 

CMDB Maintenance and Data Integrity -

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the CMDB by maintaining configuration items (CIs) and their relationships. 
• Regularly update the CMDB to reflect changes in IT infrastructure, systems, and processes

Data Collection and Integration -

• Collect data on IT assets and systems using discovery tools and integrate them into the CMDB.  
• Work with other IT teams (e.g., network, server, software, etc.) to ensure accurate data collection and integration. 

Configuration Item Management: -

• Create, update, and maintain records for all CIs, including hardware, software, network devices, and services.
• Ensure that CIs are classified correctly and that their relationships with other assets are mapped accurately

Change Management Support: -

• Collaborate with change management teams to track changes to IT infrastructure and update the CMDB accordingly. 
• Support the incident and problem management processes by ensuring the CMDB provides accurate and up-to-date information. 

Reporting and Auditing: -

• Generate and maintain reports on CMDB data quality and CI status. 
• Perform regular audits to verify the accuracy of the CMDB and ensure it aligns with actual IT assets and configurations.  

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
• Experience with Configuration Management and CMDB tools (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, Flexera).  
• Strong understanding of ITIL and ITSM processes, especially change, incident, and configuration management.  
• Ability to work with various IT teams to ensure CMDB data accuracy and completeness. \
• Analytical skills with a focus on data integrity and accuracy.
