EMS Technician

Saudi

The EMS Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Electrical & Maintenance Systems (EMS) used in oil and gas drilling, production, and processing facilities. This includes power distribution, automation systems, motor control centers (MCCs), PLCs, SCADA, and emergency backup systems. The role requires expertise in high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, hazardous area classification (ATEX/IECEx), and compliance with oil & gas safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Electrical & Maintenance System Operations

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair EMS components, electrical panels, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, and power distribution networks.
  • Maintain and calibrate PLCs, SCADA, automation systems, and electrical control systems.
  • Monitor and optimize UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, battery backup, and emergency power solutions.
  • Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Conduct electrical testing, power quality analysis, and insulation resistance testing.

2. Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults, motor failures, and EMS communication errors.
  • Identify and rectify issues in automation, control panels, and instrumentation circuits.
  • Use diagnostic tools like multimeters, insulation testers, and thermal imaging cameras for fault detection.
  • Ensure compliance with ATEX/IECEx standards for hazardous area equipment.

3. Compliance & Safety

  • Follow and enforce HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) policies in all electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Adhere to NEC, IEC, API, and ATEX safety standards for electrical and control systems.
  • Implement LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Participate in risk assessments, safety drills, and permit-to-work (PTW) processes.

4. System Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor EMS, SCADA, and automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and documentation for maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Assist in procurement by identifying spare parts, electrical components, and tools.

5. Coordination & Training

  • Work closely with instrumentation, mechanical, and process teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Train junior technicians on EMS troubleshooting, electrical maintenance, and best practices.
  • Provide technical support during shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency repairs.
