Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees within the manufacturing facility. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and investigating accidents to prevent future occurrences.


Key Responsibilities:


Safety Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, including OSHA, NEBOSH, ISO45001, and industry-specific regulations.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and risks.
  • Assess and evaluate workplace hazards, such as machine guarding, electrical safety, and chemical handling.
  • Implement effective control measures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including procedures for fire, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and training sessions to ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively.

Accident Investigation and Prevention:

  • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze accident data to identify trends and implement preventive measures.

Safety Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees, covering topics such as machine guarding, lockout/tagout procedures, hazardous materials handling, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promote a strong safety culture through ongoing training and education initiatives.


Compliance Monitoring:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, and training.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improvement in safety performance and implement initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce risks.

Skills

Education:

Diploma degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science.


Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer, preferably in power generation, industrial, or construction environments.

Hands-on experience in conducting risk assessments, site inspections, and implementing safety management systems.


  • Good knowledge in Microsoft office.
  • Preferred experience in electrical and mechanical work.
  • Preferred experience in industrial, or construction environments


Certifications:

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification or equivalent.
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certifications are a plus.
