Summary
The IT Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting the organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring that all systems are operating efficiently and securely. This includes maintaining hardware and software, troubleshooting issues, providing technical support, and implementing new technology solutions to improve business processes.
Responsibilities
- System Maintenance & Support:
- Monitor and maintain servers, networks, and computer systems.
- Perform routine checks and upgrades on hardware and software to ensure smooth functionality.
- Install, configure, and update operating systems and software applications.
- Technical Support:
- Provide timely and efficient support to staff on IT-related issues (hardware, software, network).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems, escalating issues to senior IT staff if needed.
- Set up user accounts, permissions, and manage network security protocols.
- Network Administration:
- Maintain and manage local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and wireless networks.
- Ensure optimal performance and security of networks through regular monitoring and updates.
- Assist with VPN setup and remote access solutions.
- Cybersecurity & Data Protection:
- Implement and enforce IT security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus, and data encryption.
- Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments.
- Ensure proper backup and disaster recovery plans are in place and tested regularly.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of hardware, software, licenses, and user activities.
- Document processes, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Provide reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions to the IT manager.
- Project Management:
- Assist in the planning and execution of IT projects, such as new software implementations or hardware rollouts.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers for IT-related purchases and services.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Certifications (preferred): CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), etc.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or network administration.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Windows/Linux operating systems.
- Proficiency in networking technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Experience with virtualization tools (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
