To strengthen operations & maintenance within the Water Transmission, Storage & Distribution (WTS&D) Department, there is a requirement for a Water Network Engineer to join the Operations and Maintenance Team to provide technical assistance and expertise with reference to the operations, repair and maintenance of the water network. The Water Network Engineer will join a diverse technical team that promotes a collaborative, quality and results-oriented approach to providing customers with a continuous supply of high-quality water. The candidate will also provide mentorship to junior team members ensuring knowledge transfer for professional development. |
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES The Water Network Engineer – Operations & Maintenance responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Operations - Water distribution operations. Supervise, manage, coordinate and report on field related operational activities including but not limited to inspection of operational facilities, supervision of and liaison with O&M contractors, supervision of tanker filling station operations
- Design and or review water network modelling field tests and results, water network flow and pressure tests
- Conduct water network operations impact assessments
- Conduct water network investigations and operations
- Conduct or lead leakage Investigations
- Use of water network management software
- Pressure management and pressure optimisation activities
- Carry out regular asset surveys
- Water quality monitoring, investigation and field interventions.
- Supervision of field operatives engaged in Inspection of field installations and asset construction. Reporting of findings, including making of recommendations

Monitor and Control Safety & Quality Client Side - Ensure Water client responsibilities with respect to Health, Safety, Quality & Environment are met.
- Review and input to Water Safety Plans.
- Support development of Standard Operating procedures, Incident Management & Emergency procedures
- Attend site to review/inspect the construction of assets to ensure water O&M requirements are being met.
Ability to Report and Analyze - Piping installation evaluations and assessment of results
- Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions.
Project Delivery Co-Ordination - Facilitate the process of project turnover such as conducting walkthrough and manage all exception items.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Track project deliverables using appropriate tools
- Provide a clear and complete handover to project end users
Testing & Commissioning - Support of water distribution asset testing activities

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Minimum 10 years of experience in the water industry, of which a minimum of 5 years is in a water networks operation role for a wide range of water network operational assets
- Knowledge and experience of water asset operational data, network modelling leakage management and intervention techniques
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components and operations of water network assets and water quality requirements and disinfection materials and processes
- Experience in DMA/DMZ setup and regular zonal integrity checks
- Ability to provide detailed technical assessments, recommendations and influence people at all levels
- Innovative approach, eager to challenge the status quo
- Ability to focus on short- and long-term strategic objectives
- Business Communications: Use the right language, tone, and storytelling techniques when communicating, describing, or explaining issues over email, chat, reports, presentations, and other forms and channels of communication
