Job Purpose:

The Instrument Specialist will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating instrumentation and control systems critical to the chemical manufacturing process. This position ensures that all instruments are performing efficiently and within required specifications to maintain product quality, safety, and compliance with environmental standards..


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instrumentation Maintenance:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on process instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure sensors, temperature controllers, analyzers, and level transmitters.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning instruments and control systems in coordination with maintenance and production teams.
  • Calibrate and adjust instruments to ensure accurate and reliable readings for process control and safety monitoring.


  1. Installation & Commissioning:
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new instruments and control systems in chemical processing plants.
  • Ensure compliance with plant specifications and safety standards during installation.


  1. System Optimization:
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of instruments and control systems to maximize plant efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with engineers and operators to improve control systems and reduce process variability.


  1. Compliance & Documentation:
  • Maintain proper documentation of all instrument calibration records, maintenance activities, and repairs.
  • Ensure that all instrumentation complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental laws (e.g., OSHA, EPA).


  1. Training & Support:
  • Provide technical support to plant operators and other staff members on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Train personnel on proper handling and operation of equipment.


  1. Safety & Environmental:
  • Ensure that all work activities are conducted safely and follow plant safety protocols.
  • Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and environmental protection activities as required.


Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in instrumentation and control systems in the chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems (DCS, PLCs, SCADA).
  • Proficiency in the calibration and maintenance of various instruments (flow, pressure, temperature).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental standards (e.g., HAZOP, SIL).
