  • Expert skills of an otolaryngologist include: treating diseases of the ears, upper pharynx and oral cavity, larynx, nose, and face and neck.

  • Nearly all otolaryngologists regularly tackle cases like nosebleeds, tonsillectomies, adenoidectomies, infected mastoids and sinusitis. Other disease conditions that an otolaryngologist treats on a habitual basis are: ear infections, ear pain, nerve disorders, buzzing in the ears and problems related to equilibrium. The commonest disorder is related to the sinuses.

  • An otolaryngologist also treats patients with a reduced or altered sense of smell. Otolaryngologists may see patients who have speech difficulty or swallowing difficulty.

  • Patients with tumors in the / neck or those with an abnormality or defect in the ear, nose or throat are also seen by an otolaryngologist.

  • Otolaryngologists should be able to work well under stressful conditions. They should be provide an all-inclusive care to the patient and should work well with other medical personnel, including doctors, assistants, nurses, technicians and other medical workforce.
