Role Summary We are seeking a technically capable Windows Server Engineer L1/L2 to support and maintain enterprise Windows Server environments and associated infrastructure services.
The role will provide operational support across Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware/VCF, Power Shell, backup and disaster recovery, Exchange, Citrix, and SCCM.
The successful candidate will monitor infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents, perform routine administration and maintenance, support patching and security remediation, and resolve issues within agreed SLAs. Complex issues will be escalated to senior engineers or the Windows Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities Windows Server Administration Monitor and maintain enterprise Windows Server operating systems and services. Perform routine server administration, configuration, maintenance, and standard changes. Monitor server health, availability, performance, and system alerts. Troubleshoot Windows Server operating system and service-related issues. Support Windows Server upgrades, patching, and maintenance. Identify and escalate recurring or complex server issues. Maintain accurate records of system changes and troubleshooting activities. Active Directory & Group Policy Support administration of Active Directory environments. Perform user, computer, group, and access administration. Support Group Policy configuration and troubleshooting. Troubleshoot Active Directory authentication, domain, and policy-related issues. Support DNS services integrated with Active Directory. Escalate complex Active Directory issues to senior engineers. DNS & DHCPSupport enterprise DNS and DHCP services. Troubleshoot DNS resolution, configuration, and connectivity issues. Troubleshoot DHCP address-assignment and service issues. Perform routine DNS/DHCP administration and approved changes. Monitor service availability and respond to related incidents. VMware & VCFSupport virtualised environments using VMware and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Monitor virtual machines and virtual infrastructure. Troubleshoot common virtualisation-related issues. Assist with VM provisioning, configuration, and maintenance. Support VMware infrastructure changes under established procedures. Monitor performance and capacity and escalate complex issues. Power Shell & Automation Use Power Shell for Windows Server administration and troubleshooting. Develop and maintain scripts for routine administration tasks. Automate repetitive system-management activities where appropriate. Use scripting for monitoring, reporting, and operational tasks. Maintain and document operational scripts. Enterprise Application Support Support enterprise applications including Exchange, Citrix, and SCCM. Troubleshoot common application and infrastructure integration issues. Assist with application incidents and service requests. Monitor application services and escalate complex issues. Support standard maintenance and configuration activities. Backup, Disaster Recovery & Security Monitor enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions. Perform backup checks and investigate backup failures. Assist with system and data recovery activities. Support disaster recovery procedures and testing. Support Windows Server patch management and approved security updates. Assist with vulnerability remediation and security findings. Perform system tasks required to close VA/CR findings. Follow enterprise access-control, security, and compliance procedures. Monitoring & Incident Management Monitor Windows infrastructure and respond to system alerts. Log, categorise, prioritise, and track incidents using the appropriate ITSM system. Troubleshoot Windows, hardware, software, network, and infrastructure issues. Diagnose and resolve incidents within agreed SLAs. Support P1/P2 incidents and provide technical information during major incidents. Escalate complex or unresolved issues to senior engineers or the Team Lead. Document troubleshooting activities and resolutions. Hardware & Software Troubleshooting Diagnose and resolve hardware and software problems. Troubleshoot server operating system and infrastructure issues. Identify hardware faults and coordinate escalation or replacement. Perform technical diagnostics and document findings. Documentation & Collaboration Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational records. Document troubleshooting procedures and solutions. Update knowledge-base articles and operational guides. Communicate effectively with infrastructure teams and stakeholders. Provide clear updates during incidents and maintenance activities. Shift Support Work assigned shifts to provide continuous infrastructure support. Participate in scheduled maintenance and after-hours activities when required. Respond to infrastructure incidents during assigned shifts. Perform effective shift handovers and communicate outstanding issues. Maintain service continuity across shift changes. Essential Skills & Qualifications Diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Experience supporting enterprise Windows Server environments. Strong understanding of Windows Server operating systems and services. Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP. Experience with VMware and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Working knowledge of Power Shell scripting and automation. Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, operating system, and network issues. Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP. Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions. Knowledge of Exchange, Citrix, and SCCM. Experience with patch management and security remediation. Ability to perform system tasks and close VA/CR findings. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good communication and documentation skills. Willingness and ability to work shifts.

Experience in 24/7 or shift-based IT environments. Relevant Microsoft, VMware, or infrastructure certifications.
