The DCS Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient operation and optimization of the Distributed Control System (DCS) within Savola Foods Company (Sugar refinery). This position requires a comprehensive understanding of refinery processes, including, sugar handling, melting, carbonatation, filtration, evaporation, crystallization, and drying. The DCS Supervisor is tasked with ensuring all process parameters are meticulously maintained, utilizing analytical troubleshooting skills to address operational challenges swiftly and effectively. This role demands an individual who can proactively engage with data analysis to drive efficiency and support the continual improvement of production processes.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and control the complete refinery process through the DCS, ensuring the handling of raw sugar, melting, carbonatation, filtration, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, and drying units are efficiently managed.
  • Monitor and analyze process parameters, alarms, and trends to maintain stable and efficient operations within established limits.
  • Adjust setpoints, control loops, and automation sequences as necessary to optimize performance, reduce process variations, and maintain product quality.
  • Identify abnormal conditions within operations, diagnose issues using root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions with shift teams promptly.
  • Lead investigations into process disturbances, alarms, and system failures, working closely with maintenance and instrumentation teams to address hardware or software issues.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to implement control strategies that enhance process stability while significantly reducing energy and chemical consumption.
  • Conduct risk assessments surrounding process control activities, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational guidelines while facilitating safe startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Train DCS operators on industry best practices, emergency response protocols, and effective process control techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process deviations, system adjustments, and corrective actions, and provide insights through the preparation of shift reports and operational logs.
  • Participate in the continuous updating of SOPs, process manuals, and automation documentation in alignment with changing operational needs.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to Distributed Control Systems (DCS), process automation, and control loops.
  • Strong understanding of sugar manufacturing processes and related operations, including equipment familiarization with DCS software and hardware.




Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in DCS operations within a manufacturing or processing environment, preferably in the food or related sector.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering (Instrumentation & Control or Chemical) or related technical field.
  • Demonstrate experience with continuous improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma or Lean, focusing on operational efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments, including operations and maintenance teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational policies, including adherence to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and work permits.
