Chief Lab Technician

  • Laboratory Chief Technician is responsible for supervises and control the day to day Laboratory activities to provide prompt, proficient and quality service in support of patient care.

 

 

  • Provides professional leadership required to assure the services are timely, coordinated and adhere to established rules, procedures, instructions and quality controls, and has full responsibility for the use, care and control of the equipment, reagent and supplies, staff scheduling and use of personnel.

 

 

  • Organizes quality control testing of specimens through different sections of laboratory as per national or international standard.

 

 

  • Responsible for Laboratory staff personnel file.

 

Skills

  • Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.

 

 

  • Supervises and instruct all technical staff to ensure performance meets the approved standards.

 

 

  • Working knowledge of Quality Control methods in assigned area and Quality Improvement program based on Local & International Standards, e.g. CBAHI, SFDA, CAP, JCIA & AABB Standards.

 

 

  • Oversees the preventive maintenance program for all laboratory equipments.

 

 

  • Prepares duty schedule for staff to ensure adequate coverage in all sections of the Laboratory.

 

 

  • Assists in the preparation of administrative monthly report.

 

 

  • Develops and participate in the In-service training for laboratory personnel and trainee technicians on a weekly basis and audits learn knowledge.

 

 

  • Develops new tests and methodologies as necessary based on International Standards.

 

 

  • Prepare staff evaluation and competency assessment.

 

 

  • Makes frequent rounds of the Laboratories; noting equipment, procedural or personnel problems and taking corrective actions.

 

 

  • Reviews test record and reports frequently through spot checks to ensure they are complete and that results are sent to requesting physicians as promptly as possible. Works closely with Quality and Safety Coordinator to ensure accuracy, precisions and reliability of all test reports.

 

 

  • Investigates complaints from patient, physicians, and nurses or those regarding lost specimens and lost of laboratory reports unresolved by staff and authorizes or initiates appropriate corrective action, keeping the Director of Laboratory informed of unusual problems encountered and actions taken.

 

 

  • Participates in the development of operation manuals and assures these are available and up to date for use and review of the unit staff.

 

 

  • Complies with hospital dress code.

 

 

  • Supervises the OPD lab daily operation for smooth and fast service.
