Role Purpose
The role of a Process Control Manager before and after go-live of T1 Container Terminal involves strategic planning, hands-on operational management, and continuous improvement to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing optimization of automated systems
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Roll & Responsibilities
Before Go- Live:
- Planning and Preparation: Collaborating with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to develop implementation plans for automated systems. This includes defining project scope, timelines, and resource requirements.
- System Integration: Overseeing the integration of automated systems into existing terminal infrastructure. This involves coordinating with vendors, conducting system testing, and ensuring compatibility with existing equipment and processes.
- Procedure Development: Developing BPMs of terminal, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for control room operations, including system monitoring, troubleshooting protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Training and Readiness: Designing and organizing training programs for control room operators and other terminal staff to familiarize them with the new automated systems. This may include hands-on training, simulations, and certification programs to ensure readiness for go-live.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensuring that all safety regulations and compliance standards are met before implementing automated systems. This includes conducting safety assessments, addressing potential hazards, and implementing safety measures.
- Performance Monitoring: Setting up monitoring systems to track the performance and efficiency of automated equipment during testing phases. This involves collecting data, analyzing metrics, and making adjustments to optimize performance.
After Go- Live:
- Operations Management: Assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the control room once the automated systems are live. This includes overseeing system monitoring, scheduling, and coordination to ensure smooth terminal operations.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Responding to system malfunctions or operational issues in real-time, troubleshooting problems, and coordinating with maintenance teams to implement repairs or adjustments.
- Quality Assurance: Conducting regular quality checks to ensure that automated systems are functioning correctly and meeting performance targets. This may involve reviewing data reports, conducting inspections, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously seeking opportunities to optimize processes and
improve efficiency within control room operations. This could involve implementing new technologies, refining procedures, or providing feedback for system enhancements.
- Team Leadership and Development: Providing leadership and support to control room operators and process controllers. This includes coaching, mentoring, and providing opportunities for skills development to ensure a high-performing team.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Serving as a central point of contact for communication between various teams, stakeholders, and management. This involves providing regular updates on terminal operations, addressing concerns, and coordinating responses to inquiries or issues.
BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- This position requires a professional, standardized approach to work and leadership of others.
- Strong communication and planning skills.
- Expertise and solid understanding of conventional and semiautomated container terminal operations.
- TOS experience for container handling.
- Previous experience defining TOS requirements, O&A, implementation, and training others.
- Lean/6 Sigma qualifications at Yellow Belt or higher.
- Business process experience in port operations.
- Strong change management skills, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic, ever-changing environments.
- Strong Verbal and written English language skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/preferably master’s degree in port and/or terminal management, or related business studies
- Relevant years of experience in the container handling operations as Process Controller, Planner or Exception Handler.
