Job Purpose:Cost effectively manages all resources, including a qualified and well-trained workforce to safely operate a Chemical Plant in order to deliver Plant production targets within agreed plans and budgets in line with the Production Strategy and the vision, mission and business objectives of Maaden.
Key Accountabilities:Health, Safety and Environment:Promote a culture of safety as reflected by zero accidents and low incident rates. Ensure the implementation of the operational HSE Management System in order to ensure that all MPC Plant Production staff implement standard HSE processes and operating procedures. Leadership:Ensure the effective achievement of Production functional objectives through the leadership of a team in an assigned plant – setting plant and individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff, provision of formal and informal feedback and appraisal – in order to maximize subordinate and plant performance. Develop and execute integrated organization and manpower plans to support the accomplishment of Production Plans including the recruitment, training and development of multicultural staff. Create a working environment and culture which engages all Plant staff. Manage the Plant staff and develop future leaders for the plant and the Company. Direct the training of teams to prepare and develop them for planned career succession. Strategy: Contribute to the development of the Production strategy for the Chemical Plants at Maaden in line with the vision, mission and business objectives of the company. Policies, Processes & Procedures: Contribute to the development of and ensure the implementation of functional policies, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of assigned plant Production activity so that all relevant procedural/ legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering the appropriate quality, and targeted production from the assigned plant in a cost-effective manner. Ensure the review of such policies, processes, procedures, programs and rules and recommend changes and updates. Ensure their proper implementation as approved by the management.
Annual Budgets and Plans:Prepare the annual operating and capital expenses financial budget, and manage Plant production to accomplish those budgets. Set the production plans and provide input to technical budgets for the year based on the sales plans and customer demands. Supervise and control manpower, capital and expense budgets relating to the function. Production Management:Ensure the availability of the appropriate mix of production resources, e.g. raw materials, equipment, personnel and utilities, in order to deliver high quality and reliable output from the assigned plant in a safe working environment. Optimize steam, energy, water balance and materials balance in order to ensure that the plant chemical processes are optimized Quality:Ensure the quality of raw materials, intermediate and final products in the assigned plant meets the quality specifications. Resolve quality problems in co-ordination with other departments. Shut down and Start Up:Ensure all actions are taken for the safe shutdown and start-up of the plant in line with standard operating procedures. Training and familiarization:Identify training needs. Coordinate & Conduct training for staff in skill development, operating procedures, new technology and safety precautions for the safe and efficient running of the plant. Trouble Shooting and Decision Making:Generate quick and prompt decisions making solutions to resolve operating problems to meet the shift production targets. Manpower Management:Organize required manpower to ensure that the shift operations are run efficiently. Appraise staff performance to assess the effectiveness of available staff to meet current and future needs. Risk:Maintain the risk register to ensure that all risk mitigation tasks are completed. Reports:Ensure the preparation of periodical progress reports to keep top management informed about the progress of various initiatives and to facilitate decision making.
Minimum Qualifications: Degree Certificate preferred in science/engineering or equivalent with training in management skills.
Minimum Experience:10-12 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment and preferably management within the Chemical or Fertilizer industry.
