The Senior Network Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
The role leads advanced troubleshooting, architecture improvements, and network optimization initiatives while mentoring junior engineers. As part of a managed service team, the Senior Network Specialist provides proactive monitoring, incident resolution, and strategic advisory support to align network operations with client business goals and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Architecture: Design and implement LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi architectures. Define and enforce network policies, segmentation, and access control.
Operations & Troubleshooting: Oversee day-to-day network operations, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, and VPN. Perform advanced troubleshooting for L3/L4 incidents, minimizing downtime and SLA breaches. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents and implement permanent fixes.
Proactive Management: Conduct packet-level analysis using Wireshark, NetFlow, or equivalent tools. Proactively identify and resolve latency, congestion, and bottlenecks in network traffic. Lead log reviews, performance baselines, anomaly detection, and firmware upgrades.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate change management activities (planned maintenance, migrations, firmware upgrades). Coordinate with operators/vendors and provide persistent follow-up.
Performance & Optimization: Conduct capacity planning and network performance tuning. Optimize bandwidth usage and QoS for critical applications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
5+ years of relevant professional experience in computer networks.
Strong expertise in routing, switching (Cisco, Juniper, HPE).
Deep knowledge of SD-WAN, VPN, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
Proficiency in Wi-Fi design and management (Aruba, Cisco).
Professional certifications are preferred, such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP-ENT (Enterprise Routing & Switching), or Google Professional Cloud Network Specialist.
