Job Purpose:

To execute advanced coastal modeling solutions by leading the RSG Marine Infrastructure in-house coastal modeling team, developing and implementing numerical simulations, and managing stakeholder engagements. You will cultivate technical expertise, oversee project progress, and ensure that deliverables are executed according to RSG vision, project objectives, quality standards, and environmental requirements—thereby supporting the successful delivery of innovative coastal projects.

Functional/Technical Responsibilities

 

Strategic Contribution

  • Implement the strategic agenda of the marine and coastal modeling function within the Marine Infrastructure Team to deliver RSG’s vision and mission.
  • Execute the business plans related to the marine and coastal modeling function to achieve Marine Infrastructure Team objectives.

 

Leadership

  • Guide a high-performing coastal modeling team by setting clear priorities, providing technical oversight, and offering continuous feedback and coaching to foster professional growth and ensure operational excellence.
  • Supervise and review the activities of the coastal modeling team to ensure that all work is carried out with high quality, efficiency, and aligned with RSG project management plans, policies and procedures.
  • Build and lead integrated design studies, managing consultants’ coastal modeling performance, and providing ongoing feedback to meet the functional challenges and goals. 
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and possess the ability to communicate tangible coastal modelling results which contribute to development of solutions and can be understood and used by other disciplines.

 

Value Engineering and Optioneering

  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of estimated costs related to Marine Infrastructure studies/design by identifying unsatisfactory performance areas, and capitalized performance improvement opportunities.

 

Marine Infrastructure Operations

  • Direct Modelling Studies: Lead the implementation of project work plans for coastal modeling, ensuring that all deliverables are executed in alignment with RSG development and design objectives, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Participate in coastal modeling projects from initial numerical model setup to final documentation ensuring that all phases meet the technical requirements and schedule.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless coordination and integration of coastal modeling efforts across project phases.
  • Technical Innovation and Quality Assurance: Champion the integration of advanced numerical modeling software, CFD tools, as well as pre- and post-processing software to drive innovative approaches in coastal processes simulations, while rigorously monitoring quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Oversee the preparation and development of marine studies and coastal infrastructure design for RSG through developing plans and ensuring appropriate and integrated, study and design methodologies are implemented, to ensure the effective and efficient translation of executive vision for RSG.
  • Manage and mentor coastal modeling team members within the Marine Infrastructure Team that will report to the Associate Director, including undertaking mid- and end-of-year performance reviews and setting of goals and KPIs.
  • Evaluate and rate service provider/consultant/contractor capabilities to select the qualified service providers/consultants/contractors in line with RSG standards.
  • Oversee and ensure detailed feedback is provided on consultant and service provider documentation at all stages of the project from initial design to implementation, to ensure all efforts are aligned and projects are compliant with the RSG’s standards and overall objectives.
  • Implement rigorous and effective value engineering and scope management techniques to achieve the forecasted budgets and required project hurdle rates without loss of quality and design intent.
  • Monitoring the coordination during the marine infrastructure design phases in conjunction with other RSG disciplines to ensure a multi-disciplined coordinated design is produced in a timely and effective manner as per RSG’s policies and procedures and project-specific approvals from management.
  • Report on project status and design progress to Marine Infrastructure director/senior director.
  • Ensure international standards and codes (i.e., health standards, safety, quality, etc.) are in place in all projects.
  • Coordinate with the relevant functions to ensure the marine and coastal aspect of all projects are planned and implemented as per environmental conservation and sustainability standards.

 

Qualification & Experience:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in civil or Coastal or Applied Ocean Engineering, Oceanography, or a closely related field.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE/PEng/ICE) or the ability to obtain licensure within the designated timeframe.
  • Minimum of 15 to 20 years of relevant marine or coastal engineering experience with 12 years in a managerial position
  • Proven experience in leading coastal numerical modeling studies and design projects, with in-depth and hands-on knowledge of coastal hydrodynamics, wave modeling, sediment transport, and beach/shoreline related processes.
  • Ability to carry out data analyses in connection with a range of modelling projects.
  • Ability to construct and run a range of coastal models (1-D, 2-D, and 3-D models) including models for waves, hydrodynamics, storm surge, sediment transport, intake/outfall studies, shoreline evolution, coastal flooding and water quality.
  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of model results through robust calibration, validation, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Experience with scoping, attending and summarizing physical model tests.
  • Oversee and manage the delivery of coastal modelling projects, ensuring that they meet deadlines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations, while also monitoring and managing risks and challenges during project execution, providing timely solutions as required.
  • Software Proficiency: Demonstrated high-level experience with coastal numerical modeling tools (e.g., DHI, Delft3D, SWAN, XBEACH), CFD tools, as well as pre- and post-processing programming solutions (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Experience with mooring analysis, and mooring software (e.g., MIKE 21 MA, Optimoor) and/or fast-time navigation studies (e.g., using SHIPMA) is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Project Management Experience: A track record of successfully managing multi-disciplinary projects, including preparation of proposals (scopes, timelines, and resource allocation plans), technical documentation, and adherence to project budgets and timelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to engage and coordinate effectively with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to perform complex engineering calculations, data analyses, and risk assessments in the context of coastal engineering projects
