Summary:
The Pest Controller is responsible for identifying, preventing, and eliminating pest infestations in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This involves inspecting properties, determining the type and extent of infestation, selecting appropriate treatment methods, and applying pesticides or other control measures safely and effectively. A strong understanding of pest biology, behavior, and control methods is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspection and Identification: Inspects buildings and surrounding areas to identify pest problems, determine the species of pests involved, and assess the extent of the infestation.
- Treatment Planning: Develops and implements pest control plans based on the inspection findings, considering the type of pest, the environment, and safety regulations.
- Pesticide Application: Applies pesticides, insecticides, rodenticides, and other control agents using appropriate equipment and techniques, ensuring the safe and effective treatment of infested areas.
- Non-Chemical Control: Utilizes non-chemical methods such as trapping, baiting, exclusion, and sanitation to prevent and control pests.
- Client Communication: Communicates with clients regarding pest problems, treatment plans, and preventative measures. Explains the process and answers questions.
- Documentation: Maintains accurate records of inspections, treatments, and client interactions, including the type and amount of pesticides used.
- Safety Compliance: Adheres to all safety regulations and procedures, including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of pesticides and other chemicals. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintains and cleans pest control equipment in good working order.
- Continuous Learning: Stays up-to-date on new pest control methods, products, and regulations.
- Sales (Sometimes): In some roles, may be involved in identifying sales opportunities and promoting pest control services to potential clients.
- Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Formal training or certification in pest control is often required or highly desirable.
- Experience: Previous experience in pest control is a plus but not always required. On-the-job training is typically provided.
- Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed or certified as required by local and state regulations. This often involves passing exams and completing continuing education requirements.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of pest identification, biology, and behavior.
- Understanding of various pest control methods and techniques.
- Ability to safely handle and apply pesticides and other chemicals.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., crawling, bending, lifting)
