§ Contribute to the development and lead the implementation of transportation strategy aligning with business goals.
§ Manage entire logistics operations, ensuring seamless movement of raw materials, semi-finished, and finished products
between plants and warehouses.
§ Manage external distribution to customers, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
§ Optimize transportation routes, methods, and costs for efficiency and service improvements.
§ Develop contingency plans for transportation disruptions, including alternative routes and suppliers.
§ Implement technology solutions for tracking and managing transportation performance.
Fleet management & Optimization
§ Manage the company’s transportation fleet, including owned and contracted vehicles.
§ Ensure all vehicles comply with safety, maintenance, and regulatory requirements.
§ Develop a fleet maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
§ Evaluate and recommend fleet expansion, leasing, or outsourcing options.
§ Track fuel consumption, driver performance, and vehicle utilization to enhance efficiency.
Logistics & distribution planning
§ Ensure optimal vehicle dispatching and load planning for cost and service efficiency.
§ Maintain inventory visibility during transit and ensure real-time tracking solutions are in place.
§ Work closely with warehouse managers to align transportation schedules with inventory movement. § Implement lean logistics practices to reduce waste and improve speed. § Analyze historical data and trends to enhance future logistics planning.
Cost control & budget management
§ Develop and manage the transportation budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
§ Negotiate and manage contracts with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and transport vendors.
§ Monitor transportation expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement initiatives for continuous improvement.
§ Optimize load consolidation to reduce transportation expenses.
§ Improve cost-per-mile and cost-per-ton metrics for better efficiency.
Vendor & stakeholders management
§ Establish strong relationships with third-party logistics providers and transport contractors.
§ Coordinate with procurement to select and evaluate transportation service providers.
§ Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met by vendors and address any performance issues.
§ Liaise with plant, warehouse, and sales teams to ensure smooth transportation flow.
§ Work closely with finance and legal teams for contract negotiations and compliance requirements.
Compliance & risk management
§ Ensure full compliance with all transportation regulations and safety standards.
§ Develop and enforce transportation policies and procedures aligned with local and international standards.
§ Monitor and mitigate risks related to vehicle accidents, cargo damage, and regulatory violations.
§ Implement driver safety training programs and enforce strict adherence to road safety rules.
§ Ensure compliance with customer delivery requirements and SLAs.
Performance monitoring & reporting
§ Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for transportation and distribution efficiency.
§ Conduct regular performance analysis and generate reports for senior management.
§ Use transportation management systems (TMS) and data analytics for process improvement.
§ Monitor on-time delivery, transit times, and vehicle utilization rates.
§ Recommend improvements based on data-driven insights and customer feedback.
People management
§ Lead, train, and develop a team of drivers, transport coordinators, and logistics personnel.
§ Define roles and responsibilities within the transportation function.
§ Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.
Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and Reports
§ Contributes to the development of warehouse & logistics policies, systems, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent
application and ease of operations for subordinates.
Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
§ Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
§ Experience with SAP or other ERP systems related to logistics and transportation.
§ Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and GPS tracking tools.
Minimum Experience:
§ Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing
or distribution environment.
