The chief accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's financial accounting activities, which includes ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and leading the financial accounting team.
Key Accountabilities
· Manage and supervise the financial accounting team including senior accountants and junior accountants to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
· Oversee the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses by established accounting principles and standards.
· Ensure compliance with local and international accounting regulations including IFRS, IAS, and SOCPA.
· Review and analyze financial data to identify areas for improvement, provide recommendations, and support decision making processes.
· Collaborate with the chief financial officer (CFO) and other stakeholders to develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls.
· Monitor and manage the budgeting and forecasting process and work closely with the finance team and other departments.
· Coordinate with internal and external auditors during the audit process, ensuring compliance and timely completion of audits.
· Provide guidance and support to the finance team, including training and development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
· Stay updated on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
· Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as auditors, regulatory authorities, and financial institutions.
· Provide financial reports and interpret financial information for managerial staff while recommending further courses of action.
· Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results, and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans and develop trends and projections for the company finances.
· Responsible for overseeing financial accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, managing the general ledger, supervising the accounting team to streamline financial operations, and enhancing reporting accuracy in Oracle Fusion.
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees such as an MBA or Master degree is a huge plus.
· A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial position is common.
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS), financial reporting, tax regulations, and compliance.
· Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) is often required or strongly preferred. Other relevant certifications, such as Certified Management Accountants (CMA), may also be advantageous.
· Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem solving abilities along with excellent communication skills for conveying financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
· Familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems (Oracle Fusion).
