Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of mechanical equipment and systems within a chemical manufacturing plant. This includes maintaining equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, piping systems, valves, and rotating machinery, ensuring they are in optimal condition and comply with industry standards. The role requires a blend of hands-on mechanical expertise and strong problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, compressors, conveyors, heat exchangers).
- Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical failures and malfunctions in the plant's equipment.
- Ensure mechanical systems are operating efficiently and minimize downtime.
- Installation & Commissioning:
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment.
- Work with the engineering team to ensure proper installation and startup.
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to operators and technicians for the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Offer troubleshooting support for mechanical systems and processes, providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure that all work is carried out following safety protocols and complies with local and international safety and environmental regulations.
- Participate in risk assessments, and safety inspections, and ensure the mechanical equipment complies with regulatory standards.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for mechanical performance improvements and recommend solutions.
- Implement improvements to increase the reliability and lifespan of mechanical systems.
- Participate in reliability and optimization projects for mechanical equipment.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history.
- Generate reports on mechanical performance, highlighting potential risks and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with process engineers, electrical engineers, and other specialists to ensure coordinated efforts for plant optimization.
- Assist in training plant personnel on mechanical systems' maintenance and operation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Alternatively, relevant vocational training or mechanical certifications.
- 5+ years of experience working in a mechanical maintenance role within the chemical, petrochemical, or refining industry
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems in a chemical or industrial setting.
- Proficiency with tools, diagnostics equipment, and mechanical software.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, API, and ASME standards.
