ROLE OVERVIEW

The Senior HSE Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and advancing the organization's HSE initiatives. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust safety programs that ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards. The Senior HSE Manager will conduct risk assessments, monitor safety practices, and take proactive steps to prevent workplace hazards, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

HSE Strategy Implementation

  • Assist in the development and execution of the HSE strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support and monitor the implementation of safety programs across the organization.
  • Ensure the workplace complies with all applicable OSHA standards, regulations, and internal policies.

Safety Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure that high HSE standards are maintained and clearly communicated to all employees.
  • Document and monitor safety inspections and accident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation of all accident reports and maintain records as required.

Training and Continuous Improvement

  • Identify areas where employee training and certification are needed to meet legislative requirements and HSE best practices.
  • Develop and maintain an effective HSE training program to foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
  • Ensure that management is regularly informed of relevant health and safety issues.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Stay current on changes to HSE legislation, codes of practice, and guidelines, and ensure management is updated on relevant legal requirements.
  • Conduct all required risk assessments, maintain accurate records, and ensure periodic reviews are conducted.
  • Advise on PPE standards and recommend control measures for employee safety.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections, ensuring that all company operations meet or exceed safety standards.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in health and safety management, with extensive knowledge of HSE regulations.
  • HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Expertise in legislation (e.g., OSHA/EPA) and safety procedures.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities, with proficiency in conducting risk assessments.
  • Effective public speaking and communication skills, with the ability to convey safety standards clearly.
  • Knowledge of maritime logistics and related safety risks.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environmental management, or a related field.
